What's going on in the classroom?
Kinder
Hello kindergarten families,
In December, we will be continuing with working with letter sounds and segmenting words. Having your kindergarten tap out words by saying each sound of the word will benefit immensely. Using CVC words are the level or words we use in reading and segmenting. Here are some examples of CVC words: Bat, Net, Zip, Cop, and Nut. Keep retelling stories at your house with the retelling lion.
In Math, we are working on measurement and data. Comparing lengths, weights, and volume. We are also looking at numbers 1-10 and comparing numbers using the vocabulary more than and less than.
In Science, we are continuing to study weather. With winter coming, please make sure your kindergartener is wearing their big coat to school for recess.
Thank you for all your support and have a great December!
First Grade
Hello first grade families,
We are working hard in first grade. First grade has begun unit three in our reading curriculum. Our stories for unit 3 are The Winner's Choice and Hunter's Money Jar. Students will read about making choices and how to not only spend but save their money. The phonics focus will be long vowel A and long vowel I. Along with learning secondary sounds of letters g and c.
In math we are hard at work! Making ten is the focus, along with adding and subtracting within 20.
Winter Screeners have opened up and will close December 8, attendance during these dates is very important. We are very excited to see student growth!
Keep reading at home and counting with your students.
Have a safe holiday season and keep up the hard work!

Second Grade
In Reading, we are currently working on how to expand sentences by using adjectives and adverbs. We are also learning how to research topics and form paragraphs.
In Math, we are learning how to decompose a ten and will eventually move into decomposing a hundred.
In Science, we are learning about different land dorms and how to find and distinguish them in a map.
Third Grade
Dear 3rd Grade Family and Friends,
The end of the year is getting closer! We are getting ready to take our winter FastBridge reading screener. If your student has been attentive to the instructions in class, putting forth an honest effort, following directions, and reading nightly for a minimum of 20 minutes, he/she should see a positive increase in their score. We are so excited to see the progress made and celebrate!
Remember, students need to keep reading and practicing math facts EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! Do not stop over break! Continue to support your student in completing their homework and provide them with opportunities to read aloud and show off their math fact fluency.
Enjoy a wonderful Winter Break spending time with family and friends. Don't forget to make some special memories with your time together. We are looking forward to spending 2024 with YOU!

Fourth Grade
Hello 4rth grade families!
In ELA, we started a new module that focuses on Native American Tribes and opinion writing. Students will learn about the culture of different tribes.
In Math, we are focusing on fractions but as always, we encourage you to keep practicing math facts at home with flashcards or skip counting. This skill is very important because we use it during all of our math modules.
We have moved on to Social Studies and have started working on our Max Museum project. Letters will be sent home to give you all the details about this important project.
As always we ask that you have your student read every night to keep up on those reading skills.
Thank you for all your support!

Counselor's Corner
We are working on empathy, honesty, friendship, and gratitude this month. All of these are required to live a life that is loving towards others. During this time that the world is busy with hate, we are working to ensure your students have a different view.
As students are less able to play outside, look for ways to get out their energy other than being online. Too much time online makes emotional regulation harder than ever. Please ensure you turn off all electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime. The blue light from the electronics messes with their sleep patterns. Emotionally regulated students learn more during their time at school.
Just a reminder, we have sources for coats if you cannot afford one. Let the office know, and they will pass the information on to those that can help. Please give us a couple of days' notice as getting the coats to the school takes a few days. Remember this is the last month also if you need help with shoes.
As we enter the holiday season, help your students look for ways to be kind to others. Join us in having a wonderful holiday season.
