A message from our Lower Campus Assistant Head of School, Kim Chung
Dear GLOBE families,
As we head towards the winter break, there are many things happening here at Lower Campus. We are excited to bring back a tradition started during the 2019-20 school year, Community Circle! The purpose of Community Circle is to bring all LC students together to sing, share, and build community. Check out this video clip from a LC Community Circle in February, 2020. Our first Community Circle of this school year will be on Friday, December 16, so be sure to ask your children about it at the end of their school day.
Our 2nd and 3rd grade students have been preparing for the winter concert. Parents are invited to attend the class performances. Scroll down to Lower Campus notes to see the schedule.
In 2nd grade Mandarin, Ms Wang has introduced literacy centers (see image). Students have access to word work (character recognition and name), sentence creation, typing/pronunciation (pinyin to characters), sentence construction and writing.
Meanwhile, in 3rd grade French , a "holiday kindness basket” has been started. Students are encouraged to show kindness and help take note of kindness around us. They have post-it notes on their tables and when someone does or says something kind, they write it down and put it in the basket.
We would like to invite all students to participate in the holiday sweater/shirt day on Monday, December 12, and finally, if your child has lost any items during this first semester, be sure to check our Lost and Found here at LC. Any items not collected by Friday, December 16, will be donated to charity.
In community,
Kim Chung
Assistant Head of School, Lower Campus

School meals updates
The GLOBE Academy offers online account management for student meal accounts. MyPaymentsPlus offers the ability to view meal account balances and dates your child eats a meal. Users can also set up low or negative balance alerts. MyPaymentsPlus is your one stop shop for managing your child’s school-related payments. Click here to get started.
Meals charges are being updated for each student, so we highly encourage you to check your child’s account often. Each student is assigned a pin number, which they enter on a keypad located by each register to purchase breakfast and lunch. The pin number is specific to each student’s account and the confidential account information is only seen by the cashier.
We also encourage all families, regardless of income, to complete and submit a short, confidential school application for meal benefits as many students can still qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Parents or guardians can submit this application online, click here to apply now. It’s an easy and confidential way to ensure your child stays well-nourished at school.
Extended Care Program / Aftercare
Our spring enrichment class schedule is now online, here. Our fall enrichment program has now ended, however, the last dance class will be December 15.

Check out this picture video from the event.
Introducing our new 4th grade Spanish teacher
Ms. Alvarado has over eight years of experience as an educator, instructing primary school students in her home country of El Salvador. Whilst teaching in a dual immersion environment, she collaborated in curriculum development and created her own exploratory learning units. She is very excited about working with your children and is looking forward to getting to know them all. Starting in January, GLOBE will be running a new regular series in the weekly newsletter called 'Meet the Teacher'.
Parking / safety - on the corner of Briarcliff Rd and Sunset Dr.
If you park near the corner of Briarcliff and Sunset during morning drop-off, you will notice some new NO PARKING signs. Please do not park your vehicle on this corner, as it causes a major safety hazard for pedestrians and other drivers turning in and out of Sunset Drive. Please be considerate, remember CREST. We strongly encourage everyone to use the carpool.
New 8-24 count boxes of crayons needed for 6th grade student!
Caia Lauterbach is working to collect 200 boxes of new crayons (8–24 count) to donate to hospitalized children. She will be at the morning carpool line with a collection box, every day this week. We appreciate your support!
CPR Training - January 3
We are having CPR training for our teachers during our Teacher Workday on January 3. We would like to invite parents/guardians who might also want to participate and become CPR certified. Send an email to our UC nurse Cherrie Robinson if you would like to join us.
Parent Teacher Community Council
Winter break is around the corner and it is a GLOBE tradition to thank our staff for the effort and passion they put into the first semester of this school year. The GLOBE PTCC collects donations and distributes them to the entire staff before the break. Suggested donation is $50 per child, but please give what’s meaningful to you. Click here to donate now. Not sure if you already donated this year? Check your PayPal history or send us an email.
Great news! Between now and 12/16, parents are permitted to come to school during the day to check Lost and Found. This applies to both campuses. Please check in at the front desk to do so. Any items not claimed by Winter Break will be donated.
Spirit Night at Fellini’s Pizza
Our next Spirit Night will be at Fellini’s Pizza (2820 Lavista Rd, Decatur, GA 30033) on Tuesday, December 13. Stop in anytime that day and a portion of the sales will go to GLOBE PTCC.
