The Prowler
Week of February 26, 2024
From Mr. Moreno's Desk:
Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Students,
This coming Friday, March 1, 2024 will mark the end of the fourth six weeks of the 2023-2024 school year. RHMS students will be assessed with the 2024 Spring Benchmarks in the areas of 5th-8th grade Reading Language Arts and 8th grade Social Studies this week. The following week students will be assessed in the areas of 5th-8th grade math and 5th and 8th grade Science. The Spring Benchmarks cover all skills to be tested on the upcoming Spring 2024 STAAR assessments. They provide excellent data for teachers to analyze. Subsequently, areas needing reinforcement will be addressed via targeted instruction and continued tutorials. The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) window opened on Monday, February 19, 2024 through Thursday, March 29, 2024. 5th-8th grade bilingual and ESL students will be assessed using this system throughout the upcoming weeks.
We kindly ask parents of students selected to participate in after school tutorials to ensure their students attend consistently in order to prepare them well for all upcoming assessments.

Mrs. Laster's 6th Grade Health Classes
Students in Mrs. Laster's 6th Grade Health classes have been learning about body image, whether positive or negative. Students have discussed how social media can influence our perception of our bodies. Students enjoyed looking through magazines, some for the very first time. Mrs. Laster heard several comments from her students who stated they had only seen magazines at their dentist's or doctor's office. Students had a great time with the lesson and projects! Projects will be displayed in the 6th grade hallway soon.

“Holding students accountable and demonstrating compassion are not incompatible notions. You can always extend grace while you provide discipline. You can always respect their dignity while you administer consequences." @SteeleThoughts
“If adults want to pursue and maintain high expectations of students, while still building a positive and trusting relationship, the ONLY way to do so is by being genuine and empathetic during every interaction. Find small ways to connect and relate. “ @messier_steve
