Library News:
Make sure your child is reading every day this summer! The public library is a great place to take your child in the summertime. There is so much to see and do to get your child re-inspired. If you need book recommendations and a challenge, have your child take the 5 Book Dive this summer. If they read 5 books from the reading list, they'll receive a $5 gift card to Book People. There is more info on the 5 Book Dive HERE. To better understand the benefits of the 5 Book Dive, check this out.

AISD Devices - Keep Them Unless You are Leaving AISD
All students will take home their Austin ISD 1:1 devices and chargers they have been using during the school year. Students will return with their device and charger at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
For students who are graduating or will not be returning to AISD next year, devices and hotspots need to be returned to their campus. Students should also return any unused or no longer needed hotspots at the end of the school year.
Additionally, below are transition options for students moving from 2nd (iPads) to 3rd grade (Chromebooks) (pending available inventory).
Option 1:
2nd grade students take home their iPad over the summer.
Chromebooks will be delivered to the campus during the summer for August distribution to students.
Students check the iPad into the campus at the start of the 2022-2023 school year and are issued a Chromebook.

Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to Sadie McDonald and Alejandra Wayman, recipients of the 2022 Kiker Elementary PTA’s Dr. Lori Schneider Scholarship for High School Graduates. These two graduates exemplify the legacy of kindness, dignity, and respect that Dr. Schneider instilled in Kiker Comets. Kiker PTA also thanks all applicants for their submissions. We were inspired by the thoughtful essays as well as the academic and civic accomplishments. We are proud of all graduates that continued to build on the foundation established at Kiker Elementary! Congratulations to the Class of 2022! Soar high Comets - the future looks brighter because of you!
Finish Strong by Helping Out
Allison Elementary has several awesome new projects open on Donors Choose! This is a great way to help our sister school finish up their year with some fun and engaging classroom supplies that they can also use next school year and beyond.
Many of the current projects are from first or second year teachers and include books for classroom libraries, life skills class needs, flexible seating, reading games, and more. Check them out and donate here. Allison is so appreciative of support from the Kiker community that makes these projects possible!
AISD News
Children need nutritious meals to learn, grow, and thrive—even when school is out. Through federally funded Texas Department of Agriculture meal programs, AISD provides free breakfast and lunch for students at many schools throughout the summer.
Who qualifies for free summer meals:
Students participating in on-site summer programs at eligible schools.
Any child in the community younger than 19.
Enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old.
How to find free meals this summer:
Beginning June 1, families may use the following tools to find a meal site anywhere in Texas:
Call 2-1-1 to speak to a live operator.
Visit www.SummerFood.org for an interactive site locator map.
Text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304.
Families may also find district meals sites on the AISD website.
How it works: Children in the community enjoy free meals regardless of household income and without any registration or identification. To receive a free, healthy meal, children may simply visit the cafeteria at any participating site during designated service times. Children do not have to be enrolled in AISD to receive free summer meals.
Good to know: All AISD meal sites are closed July 4-8, click here to view community food resources. Meal sites and times are subject to change.

Safety Patrol for 4th and 5th Graders
This year we are encouraging 4th and 5th grade students to sign up for safety patrol for a two week block of time during the school year. Thank you for being a campus leader!
Students will drop backpack off in the front foyer/vestibule, sign in, grab a vest, and head out front. We need help waving cars to the front of the line, opening doors, and welcoming each child with a warm greeting or sending students off at the end of the day.
