RES Weekly Buzz

RES was bustling with activities this week! Our school garden is flourishing with the rain we had in the past weeks along with the warm temperatures and sunshine. Our students were fortunate to harvest a lot of the lettuce this week, and have a taste test. They found it fresh, and delicious and many asked for seconds.
Thank you to families and friends who attended the Kindergarten Open House, Grade 1 Open House, and 4th Grade State Fair. It was nice to have a school full of families celebrating the accomplishments of their children. This week our 5th-grade students visited the Rockport Middle School in preparation for their transition to 6th grade next year. We've heard many positive comments about the visit, and the students are looking forward to moving on to new adventures.
We are hoping for nice weather next Friday for our Field Day. Thank you to all parent volunteers who have already come in for their CORI form. If you have not yet done so, please come by the RES office to obtain a copy.
Happy Weekend!

5th Grade Summer Reading Program
Dear Fifth-Grade Students and Families:
We know it’s still May, but we are excited to reveal the book titles for RMS’s summer reading program and provide you with time to check out the titles.
After utilizing multiple sources (book lists, librarians, and staff preferences), a diverse group of titles was selected in hopes that we will engage all readers. That being said, please note that the proposed books may not be appropriate for all readers. Given the wide variety of content, themes, text complexity, format, and language usage, please support your child in making a decision that makes the most sense for your family. Fifth grade students will also meet with Ms. Fauci to explore book choices and find out about these titles.
Check out our summer reading website for more information and to view the selected books. For students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, your child’s required reading will include one book from our Community Reading List and one book of your child’s preference.
If you need guidance, reach out to Kriisten Fauci (kfauci@rpk12.org) and/or your school and local librarians for additional information. We hope that you find a compelling read on this list.

Notes from the Nurse
1) With warmer temperatures, many classes are going outside, plus students are outside twice a day for recess. Pollen levels are very high right now. If your child struggles with seasonal allergies, please make sure to treat their allergy symptoms at home before they come to school.
2) PLEASE remember to send your child in with a water bottle every single day!
3) PLEASE do not send your child to school in crocs, sandals, or flip flops. These types of shoes increase your child's risk of falls and injuries!!
4) Ticks usually start to come out in mid-April. PLEASE remember to check your children very thoroughly, from their scalp to their toes, if they have been doing any outdoor activities.
5) If your child had medications, inhalers, and/or Epi-Pens in the health office this year, an authorized adult must pick it up by 12:00 PM on the last day of school June 15, 2023.
6) Please see the charts below in order to review symptoms and guidelines for student illnesses. (You can also refer to the COVID guidelines here: RPS COVID Protocols 2022-2023). Free COVID test kits are available from the Town of Rockport. Reach out to the Board of Selectmen's Office at Town Hall during their business hours.
Any absences related to illness can be excused if a doctor's note is provided to the school.
Please reach out to the nurse's office with any questions at 978-546-1223.
