November 16, 2022 Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees Meeting
Cougar Champions

Our Cougar Champions of the month were recognized for their outstanding work.
- Igo Elementary recognized student Coco Simpson and teacher Kendyl Wimberly.
- Jarrell Elementary recognized student Aseya Assadi and teacher Pennie DeAugustineo.
- Jarrell Middle School recognized student Gianna Rivera and teacher Nola Lafayette .
- Jarrell High School recognized student Kelly Kazsuk and staff member Lily Reeves.
Public Hearing
Jarrell ISD Chief Financial Officer, Robert Navarro presented the board with the results of the 2021-22 FIRST Report. FIRST stands for Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. The system is designed to ensure school district's are being financially responsible. Jarrell ISD received a score of 96 out of 100. The presentation is below.
Communications and Informational Items
- Superintendent Dr. Hicks gave an update about student outcomes.
- Athletic Director Marty Murr presented his monthly athletic update. The presentation is below.
- CFO Robert Navarro updated the board about the child nutrition department. The update included, positive survey results and feedback from students about the food and other updates SFE has made. The presentation is below.
- Nick Spinetto, Director of Communications gave a progress update about the district's new website and mobile app. The app and new website will launch in January 2023.
- Sledge Engineering gave its monthly Bond 2021 update. The presentation is below.
Action Items
In addition to approving the Consent Agenda, the Board took the following actions:
- Approved the annual audit report by Jaynes, Reitmeier, Boyd & Therrell, P.C.
- Approved the 2022-23 District Improvement Plan (DIP) and Campus Improvement Plan (CIP)
- Approved upgrades to the district's security system
- Approved furniture for Bond 2021 projects, Double Creek Elementary School, 1916 Building, and Jarrell Middle School

Area Bound
The Jarrell High School football team is Bi-District Champions and headed to Area competition on Friday, November 18th. It's the first time the football team has advanced to the Play-Offs in seven years. The game is at Odem High School, located at 1 Owl Square, Odem. It's about a 3.5-hour drive from Jarrell. The district is providing a Spirit bus for students who want to attend the game. Details are below. Students will need to sign up to take the bus.

Elementary Attendance Zone Timeline
As we prepare to open Double Creek Elementary next fall, we are reevaluating our attendance zones. We have formed a committee to develop several potential plans. It's an open committee.
