Happy Mother's Day to all of Harvey-Swanson's mothers out there. We hope your weekend is amazing!
Attention all Harvey-Swanson Elementary Families!
Be sure to bring your Dollar Dog coins to school with you on Friday, May 19th ! MSU/OU Federal Credit Union will be bringing in an array of Dollar Dog prizes for students with Dollar Dog coins to choose from. If you don’t currently have any Dollar Dog coins, don’t worry! There will be plenty of opportunities during next school year to make deposits and receive coins. Remember, Dollar Dog prizes are available at MSUFCU/OUCU branches, so you can always visit a branch to redeem your coins for prizes. This will be the last day for the student run credit union!
Fidget Spinners and Pokemon Cards are becoming a distraction. We will have students keep them in their lockers or pockets during classroom time. Students can have them out in the morning, at recess, and at the end of the day.
this summer. GRASP is a correspondence program for grades K to 8 which helps students maintain reading and math skills while they are on summer break.

Art News
Dear Parents and Guardians of Harvey Swanson Elementary Artists,
Happy May! Your artists are zooming into May with some exciting Visual Fine Arts projects.
Kindergarten has just finished up their Hyacinth flowers; created by use of their own thumbs. We also explored Potato Printing! Your young artists made lady bugs using a potato, and then used their paint brush finger for the details. Next we created LINE, SHAPE, and COLOR Art Turtles that turned out great!
We have some exciting things to create next, using all those skills that we have built up over this last year. I can’t wait to see how this turns out!
1st Grade has created some amazing FRIENDLY MONSTERS! We have an exciting get together with some of Mrs. Slot’s High School art students coming for a visit; and we can’t wait to see what they have created! Students are currently working on Piet Mondrian “with a twist”! Piet Mondrian abstracted his paintings and used primary colors. Students chose ONE image for their Mondrian like painting, and we have built squares and rectangles with masking tape around the image. Our next mission is to paint some of the shapes in red, yellow and blue; remove the tape and place black lines for a final outcome. I am excited to see the results, the students have some great images, and so far this has awesome possibilities ☺
2nd and 3rd Grade is creating artwork about SPACE! Some classes are literally using SPACE as our backdrop, while some are using a hot air balloon as our subject matter.
Students have learned that if we overlap something it shows one thing is in the front, and the other is behind. If things are smaller and lighter, they appear to be farther away, while things that are in the foreground are darker, bolder and have thicker lines. We also learned about Surrealism, so our pictures do not have to have realistic outcomes! I also took pictures of your student to be used in their artwork. So, the student will be the artist AND the subject!
The last information I have for you is that our HSE Brandon Public Library Art Show is set up at the library now. Some work will be placed in the day of our celebration due to lack of hangers at the library. Our celebration will be on May 25th from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. This is an open house for artists and their families. This is exciting to see work on display in a public facility! Teachers were notified of the students in their classes that have work on display. If you have any questions, please contact the student’s teacher or myself. Art will be on display at the library through the month of May and will then be returned.
We hope to see you on May 25th to view this year’s Brandon Public Library Art Show 3:30 PM to 6PM!
Best,
Mrs. Daniels
