Hello students and families,

Yet another amazing week here at CRHS came to an end. We are really off to a great start. Student referrals are WAY down, lunch detentions are down, tardies are WAY down and everyone is just in a great mood! Teachers are doing an amazing job in the classroom keeping students engage and active in their learning. We had the excitement of our first Homecoming meeting (more info to come), some thrilling sporting events, and a several club meetings. As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

• Any parent or guardian who is interested in providing feedback to administration about CRHS is encouraged to email Mr. Sherman. This does not have to be a formal committee, but we do value your input.
• Make sure to update your Student Information Form on PowerSchool by September 30th. This will be an obligation list item.
• All Caroline County Public School students may eat breakfast and lunch free of charge this year, with no application needed. CCPS now participates in the Community Eligibility Provision, which allows free meals for all students in schools in low-income areas. There will still be a charge for extra items such as snacks. School menus may be found on the Caroline Schools, MD free mobile app and on all CCPS websites.
• SENIORS: The make-up date for Senior Portraits will be November 15. These portraits will be included in the yearbook. If you were not photographed in August, please plan on being in school on November 15 so you can be photographed.

To the parent(s) of:

Caroline County Public Schools is using online updating of student information for the upcoming school year. This process replaces the paper Student Information Update Form sent home at the beginning of each school year. You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the online Student Information Update Form. Please be sure to complete this form for each child you have enrolled in Caroline County Public Schools ASAP.

If your address has changed since last school year you will need to submit a new Proof of Residence for the new address. You are also required to submit a Proof of Residence if your student is entering the 6th or 9th grade. If you have not already submitted your Proof of Residency to the middle or high school your student will be attending for the 2023-2024 school year, you may do so with the Student Information Update Form. You may upload this document or if you are not able to upload, contact the school to provide them with this document. Your update is not complete until the new Proof of Residence has been received by the school.

Completion of this form is required for every student attending Caroline County Public Schools.

How do I get started?
Visit carolinecps.powerschool.com and log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. (You must log in via a browser, not the app) From the Parent Portal:

1. Select the student you wish to update along the top
2. Select the Student Information Update form Icon on the left side for 2023-2024. This form is available in English and Spanish.
3. Agree to the terms and conditions
4. Select Begin Forms

What if I don't have a Parent Portal account?

Contact your student's school or email powerschool@ccpsstaff.org to receive your log in information. Accounts are created at the school district office.

I can’t remember my login for the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
If you aren’t able to retrieve your login credentials using the “Having trouble signing in?” link on the Sign In page, please contact your school directly for assistance logging in to the Parent Portal.

Do I have to answer all the questions?
No, but some questions are marked "Required" and must be answered before you can submit your form.

What if I make a mistake?
If you would like to make a change prior to submitting the form, you can either navigate back to the page using the “Prev” and “Next” buttons or if you are on the Review page select the underlined field. If you have already submitted the form you will need to contact your student’s school so they can make the changes for you.

I’ve completed the form, now what?
Once you have finished entering your information select “Submit.” This will send all of the information you’ve entered to the school. If you cannot select this button you will need to make sure that you have answered all required questions.

What if I have more than one student in the district? Do I need to do this for each student?
Yes you will need to provide information that is specific to each student. We recommend that you complete and submit one form and then start another. This will allow you to “snap” (or share) selected family information, which saves you time.

September is National Recovery Month, and September 13 has been designated Caroline Goes Purple Day. Please join us in the effort to raise awareness about substance abuse and prevention by wearing purple on that day! Take a selfie or a group photo and post it to your social media with the hashtag #carolinegoespurple. Students can send photos to Ms. Reed to post on CRHS social media!

Chesapeake College 's Upward Bound is actively recruiting students for this upcoming school year! Are you interested in attending college after high school? Let them help with the process! Follow them on Instagram @ccupwardbound and direct message them for more information!

As you may have heard, marijuana (referred to as cannabis in legislation) possession and use became legal on July 1, 2023 for adults 21 and older, with certain limits and restrictions.

However, nothing has changed for our students in Caroline County Public Schools. Students are still not allowed to use or have cannabis in schools, and there is no plan to change disciplinary practices.

• The CCPS Student Code of Conduct (policy and regulation) states that if a student is found under the influence of drugs or controlled substances, a teacher or administrator will intervene and respond to the situation. Related service providers, such as social workers, psychologists and counselors, are also informed.

• If a student is using or possessing drugs or controlled substances at school, discipline can include anything from intervention by an administrator to suspension to expulsion. School police and related service providers are notified of the situation.

• Those distributing or selling drugs at school can be suspended long-term or expelled. School police and related service providers would be alerted.

Regarding cannabis education in school, the subject is already a part of Maryland’s Comprehensive Health Education Framework and is addressed at multiple grade levels, and lessons vary depending on students’ ages.
