October 4th, 2023
Greetings from Mr. E
Dear Jefferson Families & Friends:
Happy October! October is always a busy month and this October is no exception. We have the Homecoming Parade this week, Bingo For Books next week along with the Book Fair kick-off, Parent Teacher Conferences, Halloween, and no school on the 13th or the 20th (both are Fridays).
Pick-Up After School
We need your help with pick-up in the afternoon. Please be mindful of the crosswalks, more importantly, the people in the crosswalks whether it be Jefferson School Staff or Students. Please avoid stopping in the middle of a crosswalk if you are in a car. Please use the crosswalks if you are on foot. Also, remember we are an elementary school, so make sure you are not smoking or vaping on the grounds. Try to set a good example for all of our students.
Homecoming Parade
Come join us on Wednesday, October 4, at 6:30 to help Jefferson defend our Title…we won best float last year! Let’s do it again! We begin lining up behind the Federal Building at 6:30. If you have younger children that want to be a part of the fun, make sure they have used the restroom and they don’t need to be there until 6:45. Students and parents are welcome to join us. Our theme is SPACE….if you could dress as an alien, an astronaut, all black, OR just wear a Jefferson or North Platte shirt. We aren’t picky. We will take you as you are. Come support the Bulldogs for their Homecoming.
Bingo For Books/Book Fair
On Thursday, October 12, we will host our annual fall Bingo For Books from 5:30-6:30pm followed by the kick off to our Fall Book Fair in Room #19 from 6:30 to 7:30. Both events are sponsored by our PTO. They are still looking for some officers and anyone that wants to help out from time to time with events throughout the year.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Don’t forget to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, October 16, and Tuesday, October 17. We have sent home information and the time for your conference. If you are not sure of your scheduled time or need to schedule a different time, give us a call. The teachers would like to see all of you and I encourage all of you to attend.
NO SCHOOL
Friday, October 13, we have a District Professional Learning Day. No School for students that day. Also, Friday, October 20, there will be no school for students or staff. Please mark your calendars so you don’t bring kids either of those days. Also, due to Parent/Teacher Conferences, there will be no Kids Klub on Monday or Tuesday the 16th & 17th. Please plan accordingly.
Attendance and Behavior
So far we are doing a great job with attendance this year. Keep it up! Remember that I have no control over the outcome, if your student misses more than 20 days, the absences are reported to the County Attorney's Office automatically, State law. Make sure you call your student in if they are absent. Also, bring in the doctor’s notes if you attend.
Dressing for the Weather
With Fall comes weird weather. It is cold in the morning and warm to hot in the afternoon. We have had many students showing up in the morning with just a tee shirt and shorts with no jacket. I have several students come up to me and tell me they are cold. It is hard to plan for the 30-40 degree changes in a day. If you would make sure they have their jackets with them at least. If they choose not to wear the jacket, that is their choice but at least they will have it with them. It is only going to get colder as we go forward and the winter season begins.
I hope to see you all at Bingo and Parent Teacher Conferences.
Mr. E

Boys Town
These are the skills we are working on in the classroom. Please take a moment to look through them with your student.
ROAR
Jefferson ROAR Tickets
On Monday, September 18th Jefferson Elementary will be implementing a new positive choice behavior ticket system. All staff members will be able to give these positive tickets to students who are displaying good choices, being safe, respectful, responsible and display an understanding of our Boys Town expectations. Each week Mr. E will draw for a total of 10 tickets between two reward buckets. Each month at our school wide assembly, Mr. E will draw from a combined bucket for monthly winners, which will equal a bigger “prize.” There will also be an overall yearly goal established for the whole school to receive a “prize.”
Represent Kindness
Obey Safety Rules
Act Responsibly
Respect Yourself, others, & Property
PBIS
The Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Team has been getting together each month to discuss data that students present with academics and behaviors we can assist with during the school day. We are seeing great success with the interventions we are implementing school wide! With our return to school we will have all classes reteach the school expectations within the building and on the playground. This review will help students be successful in remembering how to behave in different situations while within the building. Please take a few moments to discuss with your child the different rules/guidelines that they need to follow at school (in the classroom, hallways, bathroom, playground, etc.) and talk about how they are the same or different from the rules you use at home! Thank you again for your support!
PTO - Parent Teacher Organization
Our Parent Teacher Organization is looking for new members. We have meetings every other month and plan fundraisers and fun activities for families to enjoy together. We will post more information as the upcoming school year approaches. If you are interested in finding out more before the school year starts, please email our PTO President Randa at jeffersonelementary@ymail.com.
