One of our favorite math people to follow is Robert Berry @robertqberry. Dr. Berry is a professor at the University of Virginia and former NCTM President. Equity issues in mathematics education are central to his research.

Website to Explore - Achieve the Core: Family Guides: Supporting Learning in 2020-21

Seek Common Ground and Student Achievement Partners created Family Guides to help anyone supporting a child's learning in the 2020-21 school year learn more about what children should know and be able to do, grade by grade, in math and literacy. These guides provide information on the most important things students should be learning, and how to reinforce learning with everyday activities, tips for talking to teachers, and online resources.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Matters

Breathing exercises can help you relax, because they make your body feel like it does when you are already relaxed. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax.

Deepen Your Learning - Addressing Unfinished Teaching and Learning

Unfinished learning refers to any pre-requisite knowledge or skills that students need for future work that they do not yet have. Previously, you may have heard the term "gap" or "weakness" to mean the same thing but we appreciate unfinished learning because it emphasizes the need for action rather than focusing on student deficits.

Unfinished learning is a part of our reality now, but has always been a factor in teaching. Our current situation is pushing us to think about systematic response to unfinished learning and teaching that can, and should, be used both now and in future years.

Creative Services at Heartland AEA

Did you know that Heartland AEA's Creative Services now offers K-2 and 3-5 individual student math kits for both home and school use?

The K-2 kit includes number cards, double ten frames, number paths, 120s chart, and other helpful tools all included in a plastic zip pouch and costs $2.04 per kit.

The 3-5 kit includes a place value chart, place value disks, 120s chart, fraction bars and more all included in a plastic zip pouch and costs $2.42 per kit.

These are helpful tools to have a students' fingertips regardless of the learning model a student is in.
