Message From Associate Principal Mike Stead
Happy first week of November SHS families! Thank you for all you do to support our students.
This is my second year as an Associate Principal at Sherwood HS, and I have loved every moment of my time in this special community. At SHS, I am stoked and honored to oversee our Special Education, Social Studies, and Science departments and teachers. It's a privilege to be a part of a community that places such a high value on education and the success of each and every student. The strong work of our students, staff, and community makes this a really special place to be.
Speaking of success, we have much to be celebrate of in terms of both athletic and academic achievements! Best of luck this weekend to volleyball and football in their playoff games tonight! Also, congratulations to our Cross Country team for their Pacific Conference win and upcoming post season! Go Bowmen!
As we move forward, we want to emphasize the importance of schoolwide attendance. Regular attendance is a critical factor in students' academic success, and we are committed to supporting our students in their journey toward consistent attendance. We encourage all families to partner with us in this effort, ensuring that our students have every opportunity to excel.
In conclusion, I want to express my gratitude to the Sherwood High School community for the warm welcome over the last two years and ongoing support. Together, we will continue to foster an environment of collaboration, success, and inclusivity, where all students can thrive. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mike Stead

Confer's Corner: SHS Skipping Policy
*This will be a recurring newsletter segment, written by Anne Confer Dean of Students*
As a school, we have identified improving the attendance for all of our students as the goal that all of our staff will collectively be working towards this year. The state of Oregon defines a "regular attender" as a student that attends 90% or more of the school year, which many of our students meet. In all areas of the school, students will be even more successful when they are here more often.
Since the start of the school year we have focused on the enforcement of the expectation that students are at class on time and ready to learn. If a student receives 4 or more Tardies in a week they are assigned progressive consequences to include lunch detention or community service. We have seen dramatic improvements in students getting to class on time on a more consistent basis since monitoring and consequence implementation was initiated.
Beginning in November, we will increase our monitoring of students that are being marked as Skipping. A student is marked as Skipping when they are not in their assigned class, they do not have permission or a pass to be out of class, or they have been out of class with a pass for an unreasonable amount of time. As an intervention, students marked as skipping will meet with the Dean of Students and will be assigned a lunch detention. If a pattern of skipping continues or if the student fails to serve their assigned detention, the consequences will become progressive and could include community service, parent meeting or In-School Suspension.
We enjoy having our students on campus and in class engaging with their teachers and their peers!

Sherwood High School will offer all 10th grade students an opportunity to take the Pre-ACT exam on Tuesday November 7th (Last Name A-K) and Thursday November 9th (Last Name L-Z). There is no registration fee.
The Pre-ACT is a multiple choice exam that familiarizes students with the ACT. Mirroring the style of the official college entrance exam, this paper-based test features questions in four subject areas: English/language arts, math, reading, and science. Click here for more information about the Pre-ACT.
Testing will occur at the Sherwood School District Office - 21920 Southwest Sherwood Boulevard, Sherwood, OR 97140, and begin promptly at 9AM. Shuttle buses will be provided from SHS to the district office, and lunch will be provided when students return to SHS.
