R-PTLE Weekly Family Communication
Week of September 18th, 2023 (#4)
1/2 Days (check), Full Days (check), First Full week (check) - Let's build a great year!!!
Dear Families,
We have been enjoying all of the students back in the building. Our students and teachers have been working hard at establishing, practicing, reminding, and practicing again all of our building procedures and expectations. Everyone walking our hallways should have a solid grasp of what is expected of them. We will continue to repeat the above mentioned cycle as young students need reminding and re reminding. With that stated, conversations related to not following expectations will naturally increase as we move from assuming we all know the expectations, to knowing we all know the expectations. We will work hard at creating a partnership with all of you as it takes a community to raise responsible, hard working, gritty, and successful Rockets. Thank you for trusting us with this precious responsibility!
Most mornings before sending the students off with their teachers I make a statement "Our job is to teach, your job is to..." They all say LEARN with great energy. Let's lean into building an amazing year at Twin Lake Elementary as we ALL learn together.
Let's enjoy an amazing week of learning!
Just added:

Free/Reduced Lunch Application
Update every school year!
Please click the link below to fill out our Free/Reduced application. It is important for a few school funding formulas to have these applications on file. The more applications we get turned in, the better chances we have to be granted funding from various different State and Federal sources. If you have been eligible for this program in the past, you will need to fill the application out for this upcoming school year. If you are unsure, please fill it out and the Kitchen Staff will be in contact with you. I filled out the Siembida Family's application - Start to finish took me 6 minutes on my phone.
Please note: Nobody at Twin Lake will see your application. ONLY our food service director sees these applications.

This Month's Theme is EMPATHY!
What is Empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person’s feelings. Instead of focusing how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
Even though much of our focus has been on teaching and learning our classroom and building expectations this month, talking about Empathy fits in as well. Often times, when we fall short of meeting expectations we impact those around us. The better we understand EMPATHY, the better we understand that our actions can affect a person's feelings, mood, and experience (either positively or negatively). Meeting our classroom and building expectations is displaying EMPATHY towards others.

Power School Demographic Update.
Important!
Updating your demographics in your parent portal is so critical to ensure effective communication, safety, and staying informed. Please follow the steps provided in the PDF below. If you already have a portal account the demographic update is fairly simple and straight forward. If you are new and need to create an account follow the steps below. Please call the office for assistance.
The portal will open this upcoming week. If you click on the link inside the PDF and it states the portal is temporarily disabled, please try again later. I am not sure when the portal will go live, but it will be live sometime early in the week. We will provide another set of instructions with pictures to help guide after the portal opens. I will send an updated newsletter with these updated instructions that may be easier to follow.
