A message from our Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
We will be holding a series of morning coffee talks throughout the remainder of September and into October. These coffee talks will provide valuable insights into their respective topics and will help to answer any questions you may have. We appreciate that some of the coffee talks are taking place at short notice, however, they will all be recorded, so if you are unable to view or attend any of the talks, you will be able to watch them later, online, at your convenience.
Parent/teacher conferences will also take place from October 5–6. Please note that there will be no school on these two conference days leading up to the fall break.
The importance of volunteering - GLOBE needs you!
GLOBE needs your help this year in every aspect from the smallest to the largest tasks.
We have a fantastic school and our GLOBE families possess a wide range of expertise and abilities that are invaluable to GLOBE. Volunteering is so rewarding and a great way to get to know GLOBE staff and families. We strongly encourage each GLOBE family to volunteer at least 10 hours per year. If you are not sure how you can help, fill out our annual volunteer survey and we will get in touch. Read the PTCC section below for upcoming volunteer opportunities, which include the aforementioned coffee talks, the Upper Campus Book Fair, International Festival and GLOBE Trot!
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
Morning coffee talk schedule for September
Coffee Talks will also be available to view online at your convenience.
Gifted at GLOBE
Kindergarten through 8th grade. Both LC and UC parents are welcome to attend.
September 20, 8:30-9:30, at Upper Campus
Mrs. Burrow, GLOBE's Gifted Coordinator, will briefly go over the gifted identification process that spans the entire school year, along with how teachers are being supported to differentiate for higher learners in the classroom. GLOBE does not have a traditional gifted program where students are pulled out of the classroom for a gifted class. All differentiation happens in the classroom with the lead teachers or possibly through a Google Classroom class where Mrs. Burrow provides extra resources.
Safety and Security at GLOBE
September 21, 9:30-10:30, online Zoom webinar
Join Officer Mark Bollinger and our Director of Operations, Cortney Flowers, for a security coffee talk, which you can access here. Between now and September 21, you may submit questions for Cortney and Officer Mark via this link.

MAP Testing
Kindergarten through 8th grade. Both LC and UC parents are welcome to attend.
September 27, 8:30am to 9:30am, at Upper Campus
During this event, our GLOBE Administrators will discuss why our students take MAP (Measures of Academic Progress), how to interpret the scores, and how MAP results are used.
AP Language
September 29, 9:30am, online Zoom meeting
Mrs. Daniel, GLOBE's Director of Language Program, will provide a Q&A session via Zoom, for families whose children may have the potential to be successful on the AP Language and Culture Exam this year. Students recommended for this opportunity will have met the following criteria:
1. Students who have already obtained 3 High School Credits for Language (have passed Language I, Language II, and Language III)
2. Students who currently have an A or B in Language IV
3. Students who scored an Intermediate High (6) or higher on the STAMP 4S in 7th grade
The link to this online meeting is here.

GLOBE Trot volunteers needed
On Friday, November 11, GLOBE students will walk, run, and trot their way through GLOBE’s biggest fundraiser of the year. And to make GLOBE Trot a success, we need your help.
If you are interested in being on the GLOBE Trot planning committee and helping to make one of the most fun days of the year even more fun — and more of a fundraising success — please email Lorena Ferro-Borges.
Please also join us for our next development committee meeting, Thursday, September 22 at 1pm. Access details are available on Board on Track.
Parent Teacher Community Council
Volunteers needed for Coffee Talks
PTCC is helping the school set up for the coffee talks. We are looking for parents who can volunteer on those mornings. Click here to sign-up.
Upper Campus Book Fair
Mark your calendars! We are excited about the Scholastic Book Fair which will be held in person from September 26 to September 30 in the UC Cafeteria. It will be open for shopping before school from 7:30am to 8am and after school from 3:15pm to 5:30pm. We are looking for volunteers to help with UC Book Fair. If you are interested, please click here.
International Festival - volunteers required
This year's International Festival will take place on Sunday, October 2, from 12pm to 4pm. Check out our flyer for event information. We are in need of volunteers to help out, click here to sign up.
Mini-Grants Committee
We need parents to serve on our mini-grants committee. PTCC provides small grants to teachers for things like training, conferences, software and other educational opportunities. If you are interested in assisting with application review, please send us an email.
Fundraising PAC
We are looking for someone to help with our fundraising PAC! This includes helping to coordinate spirit wear, spirit nights and help with our auction. If you are interested, please send us an email.
Spirit Wear
Spirit wear will be delivered to the school next week. If you ordered spirit wear and had it shipped to the school, it will come home with your child. We will open a new store the first two weeks of October.
Campus Notes
Lower Campus
Picture Day will be held on September 19 - read flyer. Please note, all students must be in compliance with the school uniform policy on Picture Day.
Upper Campus
Please do not arrive to line up for carpool before 2:30pm. We have a PE class that takes place towards the back of the parking area before then, and it is dangerous and disruptive for students participating in that class.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Teaching sustainability in action!
About 2,000 worms are heading to GLOBE Upper Campus, in preparation for the school worm composting program. Headed up by 6th grade science teacher Malka Schwarzmer, the program (and the worms) are currently in their baby stages. For the first few weeks the worms will be housed indoors "in a very fancy rubbermaid container with holes". Students will participate in housing and feeding the worms (using food compost), with the goal of eventually relocating them outside.
Please donate your old newspapers
Our worms need shredded paper (preferably newspaper), so if you have some old newspapers that you could send into Upper Campus with your student, the worms would appreciate it! Please leave them with the front office at Upper Campus.
GLOBE Athletics
We are looking for swimmers to join the GLOBE Swim Team!
We have a coach, pool access, a swim meet schedule, and are now looking for swimmers to join the inaugural GLOBE Swim Team!
Middle School students interested in joining the team are invited to an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 21 from 3:30pm to 4pm in the UC cafeteria.
An informational meeting for parents will also be held via Zoom, on Wednesday, September 28, at 7:30pm. The link for the Zoom meeting will be published in the weekly newsletter.
We look forward to meeting all potential swimmers and parents at these meetings.
Note: You will need to have a physical on file in order to try out in October, so please start now to get a physical turned in. For further information, please send us an email.
Congratulations to the GLOBE Soccer A Team (boys) on their 9-2 win against Epstein!
