4DX model for Blended Learning
by LaKetra Robinson
4 Disciplines of Execution
Focus on the Wildly Important Goal
Increase the number of technology-rich learning environments from 20% to 50% by the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Act on the Lead Measures
Lag: Measurement of the goal
Track the number of blended lesson plans implemented each grading period.
Lead: Influenceable and predictive
Transform and develop at least 2 units, per grading period, into blended models.
Actively collaborate, bi-weekly, to plan blended lessons and determine the best strategies and tools to use.
Keep a Compelling Scoreboard
We will utilize a bar graph and google sheet with shared access for all staff. This log will track the number of blended lessons being implemented in each department, per week.
Is it simple?
Can I see it easily?
Does it show the lead and lag?
Can I tell at a glance if I”m winning?
Create a Cadence of Accountability
“WIG Session” - Meet weekly on Wednesday, during department planning time, for 20 minutes. We will use a consistent and precise agenda for each meeting.
Report on last week’s completed commitments
Review the scoreboard
Make specific commitments for next week
5 stages of change
Getting Clear
Start with the WHY
Familiarize our teams with the 4DX model
Initial meeting with department leaders and piloting team to set the stage for our WIG, lag measures, and lead measures to be pursued with fidelity
Create a digital scoreboard that is simple and visible
Set commitment for weekly WIG sessions during department meetings
Maintain accountability and commitment with accountability partners within each department
Launch
Put it all into action!
Prepare for and embrace challenges; trust the process - Lead teachers will model BL for peers and exemplar lesson plans will be shared
Leaders will set the tone for focus and high energy within their departments
Use Models (20%) as leaders and provide support for potentials (60%) and resisters (20%).
Adoption
Sustain accountability and commitment to our WIG despite The Whirlwind
Make adjustments as needed, within departments and as a campus
Establish an “Open door” policy for teachers to walk through and observe lead teachers and “models” in their technology-rich environments
Provide an open forum for staff to share candidly about experiences and seek advice as needed
Optimization
Now we’re in the groove of a 4DX mindset!
Continue to use WIG sessions to uplift our pursuit of WIG, lag, and lead measure progress
Consistent recognition and celebrations for efforts, progress, and successes on our Staff “Shout Out” board and through campus social media.
Acknowledge the shift from resisters to potentials and potentials to models
Habits
4DX is now an established functioning system on our campus
Campuswide celebration for the accomplishment of our WIG! (Jeans week)
Establish new WIGs, per department, to continue to increase the number of technology-rich learning environments on our campus.
