OCTOBER AT iCAN DREAM CENTER

There's something about the calendar turning over to October that marks Fall, a season of fun and frolic for youth. It feels like October is also when we start hitting our stride with the school year too. It's a reassuring place to be, locked into our routines, which before we know it, will be carrying us through winter and into the warm weather again (although it sure does feel rather summer-like here in Chicago)!

iCan Dream Center remains committed to keeping our students and staff safe during in-person learning. We encourage all who are eligible to get a vaccination. Illinois Department of Public Health will be hosting a vaccination clinic at iCan Dream Center November 10th and will offer Pfizer and the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Please keep yourself and others safe this season by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, and maintaining physical distance when visiting crowded indoor spaces.

We realize that seniors in high school who are not quite ready to "adult," have options when it comes to planning for the next chapter. And with waiting lists forming for many of our programs, we want to be sure interested students and families have an opportunity to check out iCan Dream Center to get their post-secondary planning underway.

Our 2nd Annual Transition/ADULTING conference will take place Wednesday November 10. Last year, students used the day as a "college visit" and we rolled out the red carpet! We are back at it this school year and hope to see many students and families from the area high schools.

Parents should plan to attend the conference as they would if they were taking a college day with their student. They will get a feel for the Center, meet current students, and have access to valuable community resources. Lunch will be provided and prospective families will walk away with plenty of information to decide what is best for their next chapter!

As a result of grant funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, iCan Dream Center has partnered with MOMLogics to bring free parent coaching and behavioral health support to parents in the community. Join us every third Tuesday from 5:30-7:00 PM for a parent retreat with Lavelle Hall Smith, parent coach and personal growth consultant. Dinner is served and no-cost childcare, dinner, and activities are available for parents of young children.
