Principal's Message
We hope to see you at Open House on Tuesday. Parents will follow their child's schedule through each class, where teachers will give an overview of their class.
iReady Testing this week and next. This week we will spend the first 90 minutes of class on Tuesday taking our ELA iReady Test. Next week we will take math. Teachers will use the information gained from the IReady assessments to make instructional decisions. Please encourage your students to put forth their best effort.
Each year as part of our continuous improvement cycle, we take a moment to survey our families. Please take a moment to complete this year's survey by clicking the link below.

PowerSchool
PowerSchool should be up and running. I will be in classes next week to show students how to log in. I will also send home parent login information at that time. If you have not already, please download the PowerSchool Application on your phone. The district code is SLXL. This app will send you an update anytime a teacher inputs a grade.

Counseling Opt-In Form
Please remember to send in opt-in forms. Even if your student never needs to talk to me, I need these forms back. Remember, they will still receive large group counseling lessons for our state-mandated counseling lessons. If you ever have questions about these, please feel free to contact me.
These forms will opt your student into one-on-one conversations, small groups, restorative discussions, district mental health surveys, etc. Your student will still participate in large group state-mandated classroom counseling lessons through our ThriveWay program.
Student Concerns
During my classroom visits this week, I will also teach students how to fill out anonymous alerts, bullying forms and how to email the counselor and administrators. Please encourage your students to utilize these tools or ask to come speak to us in person if they ever have a problem or concern. We also encourage parents and guardians to utilize these tools as well.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the school 256-428-7720 or email me at Erica.Formby@hsv-k12.org .
Character word of the month
The HCS character word for the month is courage. Please take this opportunity to talk with your student about how courage can help build self-confidence and a strong sense of identity, which are two great qualities moving forward through middle school and beyond.
