Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Food Pantry
This week I volunteered at the Coffin School Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Prevention Food Pantry. I had previously written an article titled: Hungry for knowledge or just plain hungry?
When I wrote the article, I had just met with Justin Strasburger from Full Plates Full Potential and had heard the stats on how food insecurity impacts our students and families. I volunteered at our BSD Coffin School Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Food Pantry this week and saw the need firsthand. The pantry fills a void by allowing families to choose items based on individual choice and need.
Thank you to Tracy Carrier, HBS Social Worker, for encouraging me to allow Mid Coast Hunger Prevention to use a Coffin School Room for our BSD Food Pantry. I also was at Kate Furbish Elementary School recently, where I saw staff provide weekend food essentials to students and families. I know there are many other ways the BSD Staff work to help reduce food insecurity, and for that, I want to thank you!
As I wrote in the article, I want our kids to be hungry – hungry for knowledge, hungry for sports, the arts, clubs, and for play. What I don't want is for our students to be hungry for regular nutritious meals or to worry about where their food is coming from.
