A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Similar to our fire drills, students and staff practice lockdown procedures throughout the school year. The first of three drills will take place tomorrow, Friday, October 20th. This will be a "shelter-in-place" drill where classroom doors will be locked and students and staff will remain out of sight. Staff will also practice using their Share 911 app. Chief Skroski will be helping to execute this drill and provide feedback afterward. This is an announced drill that classes will have discussed and practiced in advance. The exercise is brief, lasting no more than five to ten minutes. Please reach out if you have any questions.
On a lighter note, we have several exciting events coming up in the next few weeks! We will have our second Spirit Day on Friday, October 27th. Students and staff will dress in black and orange to get into the spirit of Halloween. Please remember, NO masks or costumes are permitted. PTA will help us celebrate on October 31st by providing Halloween smoothies. This is a favorite tradition among students and staff! Following right on the heels of Halloween will be our first-ever Glow Run (FLYER) on November 2nd. We hope to have a good turnout for this activity. The Glow Run takes place from 5:30 to 6:30, and adults are invited/encouraged to participate with their child.
Also included with this week's Explorer's Log is the flyer/sign-up for our 10th annual Friends and Family Thanksgiving Feast on November 15th. Be sure to complete the form and send it back to school by November 2nd. Because of limited seating, we ask that there be only one adult guest per student, younger siblings are welcome.
GREAT STARTS
We are so happy to announce that we will begin Great Starts tomorrow, October 18th, for PES K-5 students! FREE enrichment activities are offered Wednesdays from 8:15AM-9:20AM (parents drop students off at 8:15AM): Chess/Board Games and Puzzles, and Arts and Crafts both happen in the Art Room; Physical Activity in the Gym or outside, as weather permits. Students may pick a different activity the following week, but need to stay with their choice that morning. Students arriving after 8:15AM should spend the Great Start in the Art Room. The last Great Start will be December 13th. We hope to start again January 3rd, provided we have volunteers. We send A HUGE THANK YOU to our wonderful parent volunteers who make these activities possible!

BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION
We’ve chosen October 27th as our Bus Driver Appreciation Day, though every day we can show how much we appreciate them by being polite, safe and always following the bus rules. Feel free to write or draw your driver a note of appreciation and thanks for getting us safely to and from school every day. Thank you Miss Megan, Mr. Vande and First Student, for getting our students safely to and from school every day! We appreciate you! 😃
HOLIDAY MEAL AT PES
Your child is invited to bring a special guest to join us for lunch on Wednesday, November 15th. Students are invited to join their younger PES sibling and are welcome to share their special guest. Please order ahead, by November 2nd. Order form and details are HERE, and a paper copy will come home in today's Thursday folder. Though not stated in the form, Pre-K will have lunch at 11:30, too.
