John Champe High School Students Present “Shark Tank” Pitches Before Local Business Leaders
Students from John Champe High School’s Business Management course collaborated with representatives from the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce for a “Shark-Tank”-style business pitch competition on Friday, January 13, 2023. These students worked together in groups throughout the semester to plan out the details of a business idea, including its operations, marketing, finance, and human resource management. The four-month project culminated with writing a detailed business plan and pitching their ideas before a panel of local business leaders.
John Champe High School would like to thank the volunteers from the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce who graciously shared their time, effort, and insight to make this event successful – Sharon Wright, Stacey Metcalfe, Erica Rowe, Natasha Magrath, Susan Mitchell, Lorna Campbell-Clarke, and Carol Barbe.
John Champe Students Excel in Mock Trial Competition
Students from John Champe High School’s Mock Trial team competed in the Virginia Law-Related Education regional competition at the Fairfax County Courthouse on Saturday, February 4th. Students applied knowledge of the law and legal procedure to run three criminal trials against representatives from other schools in the area. In a field of 16 teams, both teams from John Champe placed in the top five, earning them a trip to next month’s state competition in Richmond. Additionally, Piyusha Kolli earned special recognition with “Outstanding Witness” honors.
Counseling
Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17! Random Acts of Kindness Day is a special event designed to promote the creation of a kinder world. You might just change someone's life—maybe even your own!
Being kind doesn’t have to cost anything – a gesture of kindness can seem insignificant to you, but make someone else’s day. So it’s important to make good choices and turn the volume up on the kindness. Here are just ten tips you could take to make any day (but especially Random Acts of Kindness Day) a good one:
- Smile at, or say hello to a stranger.
- Compliment somebody when they least expect it.
- Hold the door open for somebody.
- Pay for the next person in line’s coffee or snack.
- Donate your time to volunteer efforts.
- Help out an elderly neighbor or relative with their groceries.
- Call a friend to check-in.
- Donate old clothing, or canned food, to those who need it most.
- Give up your seat on the subway to someone who might need it more.
- Always say thank you, no matter how small the action.
