Eye on FISD

Welcome back! I hope all of our district families and everyone in our community had a wonderful Christmas break! I’m looking forward to a great spring semester and I’m excited to see all that our students will get to accomplish in the coming months. Remember to reconnect with your child’s teachers to maintain that support network that will result in a successful school year.

I encourage everyone to download the Floresville ISD app to receive campus and district updates on the go. The app is new this school year as an added source of information for our families and community. Look out for a variety of messages that our campus staff will be sending through the app, in the form of push notifications.

This spring, you can also expect to receive information about our Master Facility Plan. The FISD Board of Trustees received a progress update from Sledge Engineering earlier this week, and you can click on the video at the end of this newsletter to watch that presentation. The Board will consider the approval of a final plan later in the semester.

The FISD Social Services Department partnered with some great resources to provide holiday assistance to families. The community partners provided food and/or gifts to our families that communicated a need and consented to the services.

Through these collaborations, many families and 215 enrolled FISD students were able to receive assistance. We are very appreciative for the amount of support we receive from the community!

January is School Board Recognition Month, and we created the video below to honor our FISD Board of Trustees for their service to our students, staff, and community.

The Social Services Department will host a Parent Advisory Meeting via Zoom on January 30 at 5 p.m. The education topic is "Growing Up in a Digital World," presented by Ransomed Life. The discussion will focus on sex trafficking awareness and digital safety. Families are encouraged to register here!

Floresville ISD has been selected to host the South Texas Coaches Association All-Star Games to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The area's top student-athletes, including several from FISD, will compete in volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and football for the final time in their high school career.

In addition, Coach Deborah Hoffman has been selected by the South Texas Coaches Association Committee to coach one of the two All-Star volleyball teams. FISD extends a heartfelt congratulations to Coach Hoffman on this well-deserved honor and opportunity.

Do you have a future chef in the family?! Here's their chance to show off their cooking skills! Students are encouraged to submit a recipe to join the competition! Five lucky winners from each campus will be chosen as finalists to compete in our contest on March 1 at Floresville High School. Click here for details!

Assistant Superintendent Mike Schroller was nominated by FISD Board of Trustees President Dr. Joel Odom. Dr. Odom recognized Mr. Schroller for jumping into action to create a special moment for the children and families who attended the Floresville North Elementary Book Fair Family Night. Mr. Schroller wasted no time dressing up in a snowman costume to put a smile on everyone's face. Dr. Odom said it was an "outstanding and chilling performance."

Mrs. Casey Homeier, teacher at Floresville North Elementary, was named FISD's Teacher of the Month during the Board of Trustees regular meeting on Monday, January 8. FNE fifth-grade students Camila Romero-McKay and Trenton Terry are FISD's Students of the Month. Congrats! Read about their accomplishments here.
