Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 31
Join us at our back-to-school night this Thursday, August 31 in your child's classroom. It will be a great time to meet with your child's teacher and hear about their goals and plans for the year as well as ways you can be involved.
Below are the times for each grade level.
- K/1st: 5:30-6:00
- 2nd/3rd: 6:00-6:30
- 4th/5th: 6:30-7:00
Please do not bring children with you to Back-to-School Night. This event is for parents only as we want everyone's undivided attention.
Rooms App Support
Our school district has developed the "Rooms" app as a key tool for classroom teachers and parents to share information, highlight class events, and communicate with one another. Here are a couple of links that may be helpful if you are experiencing any challenges with setting up or using the app.

The Heat is On!
Some hot days are on the horizon this week. Thankfully, the heat seems to be scheduled to peak later in the afternoons. On super hot days, we modify PE and anytime the temperature hits 95 degrees, we move PE and recess indoors. We encourage all of our students to bring water bottles to school with them so that they can stay hydrated.
Looking for a Golf Tournament Coordinator(s)
Our PTA is hoping to host our first ever Bernardo Golf Tournament fund-raiser later this Spring. To do this, we need a parent (or group of parents) who would be interested in coordinating and running the event. If you would be interested, please email our PTA President, Andrea Ingold at bernardoptapresident@gmail.com.
Enrichment Classes Begin This Week!
We are extremely excited about the new District enrichment classes that will begin this week for all of our Bernardo students during their regular school day. Every Monday or Tuesday, every class will participate in one of the five enrichment classes below:
- Art
- Music
- Theater
- STEM
- Wellness
Credentialed teachers will be teaching these classes with every class of students participating in one of the above subjects for 7 weeks. Then, the class will rotate to the next subject for 7 weeks, then rotate to the next class, etc. through the end of the school year.
All of these classes will be taking place during the school day and are being funded by the school district so there is no charge to any families. We are all so excited for this incredible opportunity!
Volunteer Information
We were hoping to share information about the updated District process for signing up to volunteer this week but the system still has a few glitches. As soon as the system is up and running, we'll share information with our families as we know so many of you are eager to get signed up to volunteer!
Message from our Librarian, Ms. Jess
Awesome things are happening at our Bernardo Elementary Library! Library time started last week for all classes. We are very excited for students to enjoy new books as well as old favorites. Contact Miss Jess if you’d like to be a Library volunteer!
Also, we wanted to share some exciting opportunities available through the Escondido Public Library, including free museum passes for families who have Escondido Library cards! Please follow the link attached for details as they are on a first come, first served basis. This is a great opportunity to continue your child’s education outside of school!
