Beyond the Classroom
Academic Decathlon
On February 1st, our Academic Decathlon team competed in the second weekend of the Riverside County Academic Decathlon. We finished 6th over all with Olivia Walker taking home six medals including bronze in science, literature, art, and social science and a silver for her speech. She also won a medal for being the highest performing decathlete on our team. We are all so proud of this team and I would like to thank Mrs. Menter for her work with the team for the past 7 years; unfortunately this was her last hurrah, but I am excited that she will now be taking on a new role as our History Day coordinator for next year.

AVID
Junior College Tour
Our AVID juniors are currently on our annual College Tour where they visit seven universities (UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly SLO, CSU Monterrey Bay, UC Santa Cruz, San Francisco State, UC Berkeley, and CSU East Bay) over three days. Students enjoyed visiting dorms, learning about campus traditions, and connecting with former CHS AVID graduates who are now attending those colleges. As first-generation students these experiences provide access to opportunities available outside of our local area. Our students created lifetime memories & bonded as as an AVID family. As a chaperone onlast year's trip, I can say that this is truly a memorable experience as it serves a great way to expose our students to an authentic college experience while still in high school. Thank you to this year's chaperones: Mrs. Valencia, Mrs. Pantoja, and Anthony Villalobos (CHS alumni and current AVID tutor).
New Corona High School Video
At our 8th Grade Day we were able to debut our latest video highlighting some of the amazing programs and learning opportunities we offer our students here at Corona High School. Please take a few minutes to watch this and you might learn something new about our school. Thank you to Mr. Brady and our Video Production students for putting this together:

February Awareness
National School Counseling Week (February 3rd-7th)
- National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
- February is the shortest month but is packed full of holidays, from Valentine’s Day to Presidents’ Day. February is also National Random Acts of Kindness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to reinforce compassion and empathy in your child.
- Performing a random act of kindness is exactly what it sounds like: deliberately attempting to brighten someone else’s day by doing something kind for no specific reason. The intention behind it is to practice selflessness and altruism, but research has shown that there are, in fact, many benefits to practicing kindness. For children, showing kindness towards family, friends, their community, and strangers strengthens skills such as respect, responsibility, empathy, and compassion.
- There are so many ways for you to join in and participate in this month. Take a look at a few ideas: https://www.bgcconejo.org/february-is-random-acts-of-kindness-month/
Teen Dating Violence and Prevention Month
- Every year, approximately 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that 3 in 4 parents have never talked to their children about domestic violence. In light of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates join efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.
