Principal's Message

I hope you are still enjoying the summer with your child/children. Staff are still taking their summer break and I'm working on some details to prepare for a great year of growing and learning. This newlsetter is to share some details about our start of the school year and is the first of our weekly updates for the year. We will continue our Monday newsletters this year.

YMCA Before School and After School Care

In order for the YMCA to host before and after school care they need to have enough enrollment. If you think you will need this support, please be sure to register right away.

FAQ's about the 2021-2022 School Year

When is the first day of school for Kindergarten?

Both Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will start school on Tuesday, September 7th. This provides our TK and K teachers two additional days for our goal setting and entry conferences with families.

When is the first day for 1st-5th graders?

1st through 5th graders will begin school on Thursday, September 2nd. This will be an early dismissal day and the first day of our Parent and Family Goal Setting Conferences. Official dismissal time is 1:30 with our first students being dismissed to parent pick up at 1:20.

What are the school days and hours for this year?

We are having school in person five days a week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday start at 9:00am and dismiss at 3:40. The first students dismissed to parent pick up will be at 3:30. Fridays are our late arrival days supporting our staff with Professional Learning Communities. Students begin at 10:00am.

Where will students have breakfast and lunch?

We will have breakfast in the classroom again this year. More details about the cost will come in a future message. Lunch will be in the classrooms and hallways this year so we can maintain the required six foot distance as students are eating.

Will students have mask breaks?

Yes, students will have mask breaks while eating, at recess and at different times throughout the day. If your child hasn't been wearing a mask this summer it would be ideal to have them start practicing again a little bit at a time as they will be required on the bus and at school while indoors and not eating or having a mask break.

How and when will I know who my child's teacher is?

Class lists are being finalized and will be active in Skyward approximately two weeks before school starts. We'll be sure to send you a message when they are ready.

How do I sign up for a Parent Family Goal Setting Conference?

As soon as class lists are completed we will be reaching out to you to have you sign up for your conference in Skyward. We will also have office staff ready to help get you signed up if this is new to you or you experience challenges with the system. Our conferences are the first six days of school September 2nd through 10th and are an opportunity for you to share the amazing things about your child, their strenghts and goals.

IRE OFFICE OPENS!

The IRE office will be open beginning on Monday, August 23rd from 8:00am to 4:00pm. If you need anything before then, please e-mail me at dchristiana@meridian.wednet.edu or call the office number at 360-398-2111.
