Truitt Middle School
February 2019
Mission Statement
A message from our Principal, Ms. Garcia...
Dear Timberwolf Parents,
Our students and staff are having a great start to the new semester!
I would like to remind students about the importance of wearing their badge everyday and getting to class on time.
We have set a date for our 8th grade dance. It will be on May 24th. We have made a few changes to this special event so it could be enjoyed by more Truitt students. The dance will be casual dress and it will start right after school. Parents can pick their student up at 5:00. More info will be in our newsletter for next month!

PBIS
On January 20th, our moon cycled through the Blood Moon stage. During a school year, student behavior can also cycle through different stages. The goal of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system is to create a consistent, safe learning environment utilizing a detailed plan of school-wide expectations. This is the time in the school year that lends itself to an increase in office referrals. This can be due to things such as a long stretch without a holiday break, colder weather or staff becoming complacent in not following through with expectations.
We have all worked hard up until this point on the PBIS expectations to place Truitt on a successful path. The integrity of the system is to maintain consistency throughout the year each and every day. During this stage of the school year, we all must continue to follow our PACK expectations of exhibiting Pride, Accountability, Cooperation and Kindness throughout the campus. This includes showing respect for one another, following dress code, keeping our campus clean, arriving to school and class on time and striving for academic excellence daily.
Let's continue on a path to success and not allow negative behavior to creep back onto our campus and take hold. Now is the time to buckle down and focus on our plan and consistently meet our expectations. Please continue to talk to your child about the choices they make at school daily, and encourage them to show PACK expectations while at school. Thank you for your support of this very important Truitt initiative. Our PACK gets stronger when we stand and work together!
Notes from the Nurse!
ATTENTION 6TH GRADE PARENTS
According to state law, all incoming 7th graders are required to have a meningococcal vaccine given after their 11th birthday and a TDAP vaccine given within the last 5 years on file at school. To avoid a delay in your child receiving his/her schedule next fall, you are encouraged take the time, this 6th grade year, to complete the required immunizations. Please send a copy to the school nurse before the end of their 6th grade year.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
All students at Truitt Middle School will be using the Career Cruising website to learn how to choose and research a career that fits their skills and interests. Students will go with their Social Studies class to the computer labs and bring the results home to share with you. 6th graders will complete the activity on Feb. 7th and 7th graders will go on Feb. 6th. Eighth graders have already entered their courses for high school in Career Cruising.
The students will each have their own login and password for careercruising.com, which they can use from any computer with Internet capability at any time. They must use this to save information to their portfolio.

Counselors Week February 4th- February 8th
February 4th – 8th is National School Counseling Week. This year’s theme is School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life. Truitt Middle School Counselors work with students to become effective communicators, competent problem-solvers, self-directed learners, responsible citizens, and quality producers. We work with students, parents and staff. Activities for the week have been planned for students through their advisory class and for staff. We appreciate all of the support our Truitt students, parents and staff give to us!
Student ID Badges
The badge and its unique student number is used to account for students utilizing transportation services, checking out library books and textbooks, purchasing food items from the cafeteria, providing a means for easy identification of students in common areas of the school and for other uses as determined by campus administration. All Timberwolves are required to wear their student ID badge on a lanyard. Truitt students should be in compliance with the ID badge policy from the time they arrive at school until they leave campus. If a student forgets their ID they are required to obtain a temporary ID from the designated school office/location.
A permanent badge is required for all students to ride the bus home. There will be no exceptions.
Truitt students who do not have a permanent badge or are not wearing their badge on a lanyard, will receive an afterschool D-Hall consequence.
