Mr. Posick's weekly email

I know that we've all had our eyes on the weather lately. We had been avoiding winter, but it's here to stay now. As a reminder, we go outside when the actual temperature is above zero or the wind chill is above -15 degrees. With this in mind, please remind your child to bring and wear a winter coat, winter hat, and gloves or mittens. Snow pants and boots are optional items for outdoor recess, but I can tell you I wear mine! Thanks for your help with this request.

I received this email following a field trip some of our students attended yesterday, and I just had to share it with you.

I saw a lot of kids today at the Kids Build Wisconsin booth at Milwaukee Tool. Out of the 400 kids I saw in the morning session, the three that stood out the most to me were from Merton. We were charged with assisting the rebuild of the wall too many times to count – but your three kids not only stuck around and built it up repeatedly without the reward of knocking it down but rebuilt a new design every time, each an improvement on the wall before. It was fun to watch engineering minds at work.

My coworker and I kept talking about how they were our shining stars today on the way back, and they made our day three times better.

It was certainly a mic drop moment for our students, our school, our community, and me.

Merton Intermediate School will be hosting a half day career event on Friday, April 26, 2019. The event will take place between 8:30 - 11:30 at Merton Intermediate School. We are seeking professionals to participate in either of the following options that day:

1. Speaking to students during 25 minute sessions about your career and highlighting the opportunities of your career field or company

2. Conducting Mock-Interviews with 6th - 8th grade students using provided questions.

We are hoping to give students an opportunity to explore a wide variety of career fields, so please consider sharing your time and expertise with our students!

Stop Trafficking Together in Lake Country (STTLC) would like to share our next event happening January 27th. Krista Hull will talk about a local initiative for a recovery home for trafficked survivors along with showing the very informative film "In Plain Sight". The flyer below has specifics. This event is targeted to parents and students. We also look forward to this Sunday when Morgan Meadows, survivor, speaks at Delafield Presbyterian Church, for which information was sent out previously. This event is targeted to our middle and high school students.

Hartland- Lake Country Rotary is sponsoring a parent forum this month. Lake Country School is the host on Tuesday, January 29th. The forum runs from 6:30-7:30PM. The topic of the forum is vaping, one of the greatest concerns for middle and high school staff and the parents of pre-teens and teens. Here is an article that highlights the concerns. The Arrowhead Scholarship Fund is holding its 20th annual dinner auction February 8 at Rustic Manor. This event helps us raise funds for more than 70 scholarships, given each year to deserving AHS seniors.
