Arsenal wins Community Shield
after beating 'treble' Man City

Arsenal of the English Premier League (EPL) has topped the Community Shield after defeating Manchester City, which won the triple last season.
Arsenal won the 2023 Community Shield 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw against City at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Sunday (July 7).
It was Arsenal's third Community Shield title in three years and 17th overall, having won the tournament in 2020.
It was City's third consecutive loss in the competition. They lost to Leicester City in 2021 and Liverpool in 2022.
The Community Shield is a one-off match between the previous season's EPL winner and the FA Cup winner. Last season, Man City won both competitions, pitting them against EPL runner-up Arsenal.
As expected from a matchup between two of the EPL's top teams last season, the game was tight. City scored the first goal in the 32nd minute to take the lead.
Kevin De Bruyne intercepted an Arsenal ball and played it straight to Cole Palmer. Palmer connected with a left-footed mid-range shot that rattled the Arsenal net.
The Gunners fought back and dramatically equalized in second-half stoppage time. Leandro Trosar's shot deflected off City defender Manuel Akanji and into the net.
In the penalty shootout, which went straight to extra time due to competition rules, City's De Bruyne hit the post and Rodriguez was denied by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Arsenal, on the other hand, had all four of their kickers score to secure the win.
