CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
DANCE
I have been dancing since I was two years old, in a variety of styles including Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. I was at a studio called The Shelley Shearer School of Dance until the fall of 2009, when personal conflicts with the staff and system caused me to switch to KickIt Dance Studio. I’m much happier at KickIt and I can’t quite believe that I won’t be seeing my dance family on a daily basis next year. Dance is incredibly important to me. I have met some of my best friends through dance, people that I’ll miss terribly next year. I always feel a little more calm when I enter the studio. I find the smell of latex and hairspray soothing and nothing’s quite so comfortable to me as my dance gear. It’s been a part of my life for so long that I am unable to imagine myself without it. I’m sure I’ll be a hot mess at our final recital this year.

DRAMA
My involvement in drama is a little different. It’s not quite so deeply ingrained, as it’s something I picked up in Grade 10. I took drama in middle school, like everyone else, but I had never really performed any theatre piece on stage until the 2011 Student Directed Plays. I had a ton of fun and ended up participating in major production in Grade 11 and 12. Participating in these things has raised my level of confidence and given me new friends and new skills. It has reinforced my already strong affinity with being on stage. I’m hoping to continue taking theatre courses throughout university.
