School Counselor News

School Counseling lessons this month are about learning and having a growth mindset. We talk about our brains and how our brains grow when we make mistakes and correct them and when we choose to do hard work. Students share examples of times when they tried hard to learn new things - learning to swim, ride a bike, do subtraction, read chapter books and more. Ask your student how they will grow their brains in the classroom this year. Check out the video links below to learn more about developing a growth mindset.

The idea of having a growth mindset and choosing to do hard things in order to grow your brain hits home for me as I am facing a transition in my career as a school counselor. I will be growing my brain as an Elementary Specialist for Duval County starting on September 16th. I will be working with elementary counselors and students throughout the school district. I will miss my Axson family but I am excited about the opportunity to share my passion for school counseling.

Please welcome our new school counselor, Mrs. Irene Bryson.

Mrs. Bryson will start on September 16th and has been in growing her brain in her free time over the past few weeks. She is a Montessori parent and school counselor. She is an outstanding person with a beautiful heart and will be an amazing addition to the Axson family.

See our front bulletin board for information on our BUDDY BENCHES. The PTA, our school and Troop #169 are sponsoring 3 benches - one for each of our playgrounds. The girls from the troop have been helping me share information about the benches. We plan to unveil the benches on the International Day of Peace, September 21st.

Thank you to the students, parents, teachers and staff of J. Allen Axson Montessori school. I am blessed to have been a part of the Axson family since 2000 as a parent, volunteer, teacher, paraprofessional, substitute teacher, community member, and school counselor. Working with all of you has been a treasured experience.
