Pond Cove Elementary School - September 17, 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Pond Cove Families,
We hope this message finds you well after our wild weekend weather! We are absolutely thrilled to share that we've had yet another incredible week here at Pond Cove. The energy and enthusiasm in our school are contagious, and we can't wait to extend a warm welcome to all of you.
Over the next two weeks, we have something special in store for you – our eagerly anticipated Grades 1-4 Open Houses. It's a time for your child to shine and proudly showcase their classroom, along with all the exciting projects and activities they've been immersed in during these initial weeks of the school year.
But that's not all! We're also inviting you to explore our allied arts classrooms, where creativity knows no bounds. It's a fantastic opportunity to witness the educational experience your child enjoys here at Pond Cove.
Please note that while this event is a wonderful chance to see your child's world at school, it isn't intended for individual teacher conferences. If you'd like to discuss your child's progress with their teacher, we kindly ask that you schedule a separate time for that purpose.
Here's a quick rundown of the Open House schedule:
This week, on Thursday, September 21st:
- Second-grade Open House: 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Fourth-grade Open House: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Next week, on Thursday, September 28th:
- First-grade Open House: 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Third-grade Open House: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
We sincerely hope you can join us for your child's Open House. Our students and staff are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to share their classroom experiences and the remarkable work they've accomplished thus far this year.
With warm regards,
Tiffany & Sarah

What's Happening at Pond Cove
Peaceful Pond Cove in Action
At Pond Cove, we believe in the power of building strong classroom communities using our Peaceful Pond Cove Expectations. Our teachers kickstart the school year by weaving this work into their lessons during the first weeks with students.
Together with their students, they embark on a journey of brainstorming - imagining ways to keep the classroom a safe, respectful, and responsible space. Through discussions, they share their dreams as learners, setting goals for the year ahead, all while dreaming up the perfect classroom environment to nurture those aspirations.
But the fun doesn't stop there! Many of our classrooms, just like Ms. Marster's first-grade class, take this work a step further. They craft special class contracts or promises, reminding everyone of the shared classroom expectations. Let's peek at Ms. Marster's class promise below.
Grade 4 Earns a Link
As a part of Peaceful Pond Cove, our staff makes it a point to celebrate our students' shining moments when they show their safe, respectful, and responsible behavior throughout the school day.
Students are awarded special links, like paper chain links, to recognize their fantastic behavior. These links are then collected in our school link jar. When the jar is filled our students choose a school-wide celebration to enjoy together!
This week the entire 4th grade was recognized for being respectful to all of the lunch staff, sitting and raising their hands when they need something, keeping their tables clean, and exiting the cafeteria to go to recess quietly and orderly. Well done to all of the classes in fourth grade. Keep it up!
Harvesting the School Garden
It was a great harvest day at the Pond Cove Natureland Garden on our Little Adventureland playground! Parent volunteer, Mrs. Barrett, helped kindergarten students from Mrs. Cornell's class pick and wash kale, Swiss chard, radish, carrots, cucumber, beans, herbs, and flowers for Judy’s pantry.
This harvest joined donations from local farms and the community garden for 22 families to get groceries. Thank you Mrs. Barrett for all your work on our school garden. We appreciate your dedication to outdoor learning for our students.
Morning Meeting With Mrs. Dow
Mrs. Dow's class has been learning classroom routines and getting to know each other. One of the ways they do this is through Morning Meeting.
Morning Meeting is a great way to build classroom community, set a positive tone for the day, get kids excited about learning, and work on academic and social skills. Classes sit in a circle on the rug and they begin their day with a Greeting, Share, Activity, and Morning Announcements.
During Morning Meeting, kids have an opportunity to talk and share with peers, listen to others, take turns, problem solve, practice academic skills, and build confidence.
Morning Meeting is one of Mrs. Dow's favorite times of the day!
