A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Thank you to all of the families who attended the recent PTA meeting, Hybrid Learning Taskforce convening or the Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force convening. Additionally, thank you to everyone who completed the Virtual Learning Survey. Feedback is essential to growth and the collaboration, grace and understanding is appreciated. As we move closer to DCPS sharing a decision around the next phase of Hybrid Learning, I will continue to provide information, as it becomes available.
For families who have not picked up their child's math materials or requested electronic devices, we have scheduled two additional days, next week. Please see the schedule and other pertinent information, below.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com or backtoschool.dc.gov for DCPS virtual learning resources.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Update from the First PTA General Membership Meeting
The first general membership meeting of the PTA had record attendance, with over 30 attending, including families representing most years, school administration, and staff. The session included an update from and questions for Dr. Hooks, and breakouts by year.
PTA updates included:
Over 50 responses were received to the PTA survey. Responding to this feedback, the PTA has already started on the following:
- A family directory can be found on Konstella for registered parents.
- Virtual meetings featuring PTA updates and opportunities to connect will take place monthly.
- The PTA is considering ideas for additional meet-and-greets.
- The PTA will provide a way for families to buy Hyde-Addison merchandise, such as t-shirts, virtually.
- The PTA will be following up on other survey feedback in the coming weeks.
- Room parents have been identified for most classes.
- A recent treasurer’s report was shared. Access past reports.
- A separate meeting focused on fundraising will take place to generate ideas for this unusual year.
- PTA President is stepping down at the end of September. Vice President Sara Macauley will move into the President role, leaving the Vice President position vacant
Thanks to those who volunteered to help out via the survey! PTA board members will be in touch. Thanks to all who attended! Future meetings will be the fourth Tuesdays of the month at 5 pm.
Volunteer Corner
Are you interested in helping to promote community at Hyde in some very difficult circumstances? Consider volunteering. The PTA is looking for volunteers to:
- Serve as “buddy” families to families new to the school.
- Brainstorm fundraising ideas for the COVID context during a meeting this coming Sunday at 3 pm. Information is in Konstella.
- Be a back-up administrator for the PTA’s new family communications platform, Konstella.
- Organize a ward 2 Board of Education candidate forum. Only a portion of Hyde parents are ward 2 voters, but all our students will be impacted by any enacted recommendations from this Board. This forum could take a different format depending on the volunteer’s preference - an organized debate or a series of Zooms with each candidate; just for the Hyde community or partnering with other schools.
- Parents of 3rd or 4th graders? Interested in serving as a room parent? We are still in need of support for both these grades.
- Up for a longer-term commitment? The position of PTA Vice President is now vacant.
If you are interested in any of the above, contact the PTA at pta.hydeaddison@gmail.com.
