Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students & Families,
Next week is School Counselors' Week. Our counselors at CHS do a fantastic job supporting our students every day. A huge shout out and thank you to Ms. Michelle Olson, Ms. Brittney Harmon, Ms. Carly Vermillion, Ms. Dezi Johnson, and Mr. Trevor Lockwood.
Another big thank you to those of you who attended conferences last night and the College and Career Night last week. Mid-trimester grades are available on Student/Parentvue. If you didn’t get a chance to connect with your students’ teachers, feel free to reach out to them.
Next week, we’ll begin forecasting for our 9th-11th grade students. This is the important first step for planning for the next school year. Below is a sequence of events during next week.
Monday 2/5, during Advisory - Forecasting Begins
During advisory, students will get forecasting information and worksheets. They will also get instructions on how to forecast on Synergy. This is the kickoff to a great week!
Thursday 2/8, 6-8pm in the Library: Family Forecasting Drop in Workshop Night
On Thursday, February 8th in the library, counselors and other staff will be available to help with forecasting. Our goal is to help each student and family make an informed decision on their classes for the 2024-25 school year. Please bring a charged iPad and your class handouts, and we will be there to help!
Friday 2/9, during Advisory - Forecasting Due
Advisory teachers will check on each student, ensuring they have 15 classes. Students will keep their worksheets so they can use them when they meet with counselors next week.
After next week, students will be meeting 1-on-1 with counselors to discuss forecasting. This will take place early in the week of February 12th during class time. We want to be sure that every student makes an informed decision on their classes, and that we know what classes to offer next school year. Thank you for your partnership in this important process.
Have a Wonderful Week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Important Assessment Information for Canby Families
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in the upcoming Oregon Statewide Assessments. Assessment is an important part of each student’s academic experience. Beginning in kindergarten and through grade 12, learners in the Canby School District experience a variety of formative, interim, and summative assessments. Oregon Statewide Assessments are one example of a summative assessment administered in grades 3 through 8, and grade 11. Students in these grade levels are required to participate in English Language Arts and Math assessments annually. In grades 5 and 8, students also participate in Science.
Canby School District, like all districts in Oregon, is striving for 95% or greater student participation. This goal is essential for understanding the depth and breadth of learning for student groups across our schools, and for evaluating programs and resources. Oregon Summative Assessment data provides information to the Canby community and to district teams about our successes or strengths and areas for improvement.
We will be communicating additional information about Oregon Statewide Assessment dates for your students’ grade level and ways to support your student’s success. You can find more information on our district State Assessment webpage. Please reach out to your school principal or classroom teacher if you have further questions. Canby School District appreciates your partnership.
State Assessments: 11th grade students will be asked to participate in the Oregon Statewide Assessment System(OSAS) starting in February of 2024. Here are some important details for your planning:
Language Arts: Feb 5, 6, 7
Math: Feb 12, 13, 14
Science: Feb 22, 23
NAEP Testing: The National Center for Educational Statistics will be on campus to test 50 12th graders on February 26th. Students affected will be hearing from the school through email and letter home. If you have any questions, please contact our Testing Coordinator Sally Park.
Outdoor School
High school students are invited to meet with our elementary school principals on February 6 during lunch. See the flier below for more information.
