October 23-27 | Red Ribbon Week | “Be Kind to your Mind. Live Drug-free.”
Midview North and West Elementary are promoting making HEALTHY choices the week of October 23-27. We encourage all students to participate according to our themes!
October 23: HATS OFF TO A HEALTHY WEEK (Wear your favorite hat - Living healthy is a good choice to keep your mind sharp!)
October 24: THINK ABOUT YOUR FUTURE! (Dress as your favorite job or career - Keep your mind learning towards your future dream job
October 25: EXERCISE YOUR MIND! (Wear your exercise gear - There are many benefits to exercising and eating healthy!)
October 26: SCHOOL IS COOL! Wear your favorite sunglasses - Learning at school makes us smart and cool!)
October 27: FALL PARTIES (Keeping your mind healthy is a real treat! Wear your Halloween Costume to school. *school rules do apply)
October 24 | K-6 Literacy Night | 5:30-7 p.m. | West Elementary
"Fall" into literacy, and join us for a fun evening dedicated to all things reading and writing! Students will be able to participate in a scavenger hunt on the walking path, make their own bookmarks, attend a fall-themed story time, and participate in other reading and writing activities. Parents will have the opportunity to learn strategies, tips and resources for nurturing the natural progression of literacy, learn about the framework, attend a session from the Grafton-Midview Library, and participate in their own make-and-take activities. There will also be a session for English Language Learners.
October 27 | West Fall Parties
We are so excited to celebrate all of our student's hard work with fun fall-themed parties this Friday! As a reminder, students are encouraged to wear their costumes to school but may not wear masks or have look-a-like weapons.
October 30 | Trunk or Treat | 5-6:30 p.m.
Midview families and friends are invited to join us along the Midview Middle School walking path for Halloween fun! We kindly ask that participants bring a donation of money or a non-perishable food item in benefit of the Backpack Program. Spearheaded by Our Lady Queen of Peace, this program has helped feed countless students in our community. Their commitment, as well as the planning efforts of the Midview Compass Committee and Key Club, have made this a special event our community looks forward to each year.
November 2 & 3 | Early Release Day, End of 1st Quarter, and PD Day (No School)
In coordination with the end of the 1st academic quarter, the district will have our second early release of the school year on Thursday, Nov. 2, followed by a PD Day (No School) on Friday, Nov. 3. As a reminder, West students will be dismissed at 1:15 P.M. on that Thursday.
November 9 & 16 | Parent-teacher Conferences | 4-7:30 p.m.
Looking to better understand what your child is learning at school, their academic and social-emotional progress, and what you can do to support them? A parent-teacher conference is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s academic performance and experience at school! A link to register for conferences will be shared in our next newsletter and posted to the West Elementary webpage.
November 10 | West Picture Retakes
If your student was absent on the first picture day and it is your FIRST time ordering, please use this link to purchase photos.
if you placed an order before the first picture day and didn’t realize your child would be absent, it will be honored for retakes.
Those wanting a retake must bring back the original picture packet that was ordered. Or, if you only ordered a hi-res digital file, please send a note in with your student stating that a hi-res digital file was purchased. If the packet or note is not returned, a new package will not be printed until the original is turned in.
November 22 | Cleveland Cavaliers Midview Family Night | 7:30 p.m.
Midview Local School District is taking over Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers play the Miami Heat on November 22! As part of our Midview Family Night, Middie supporters have access to discounted tickets and exclusive on-court student experiences!
On-court student experiences: 30 TOTAL K-8 students will line the visiting team’s tunnel and 15 TOTAL K-6 students will accompany players on the court during the National Anthem. Please fill out the following form to enter your child into the raffle. Families are responsible for purchasing tickets for their students and all other accompanying attendees.
November 22-24 | Thanksgiving Break (No School)
Midview Local Schools will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Friday, Nov. 24, for Thanksgiving Break. We'll see students back in the classroom on Monday, Nov. 27!
Midview Middle School Spirit Socks Fundraiser
Midview Middle School is selling spirit socks! Available in three different styles and socks of all sizes at $8.50 per pair. Show your Middie Pride in style and comfort. Spirit socks will be available for purchase from 10/6-10/27. Once orders are received they will be distributed to students to take home. East Intermediate Veterans Shirt Sale
East Intermediate is selling "Thank You Veterans" shirts as a building fundraiser and a way to show our gratitude as a district to those who have served! If you are interested in purchasing a shirt for your student or yourself, please use this link!
3rd Grade Fall Fest
We had an awesome time with all of our third grade families last night! Our teachers did an amazing job planning and hosting another great event. Our students had the opportunity to decorate mini pumpkins, play fall-themed games, take selfies in the photo booth, enjoy popcorn and apple cider and have their faces painted. Thank you to everyone for coming out!

Did you know...
- October 30th, the day before Halloween, is National Candy Corn Day?
- George Renninger invented candy corn in the 1880s while working for the Wunderle Candy Company. The Goelitz Candy Company (now called Jelly Belly) started producing candy corn in the 1900s and still makes it today.
- About 9,000 pieces of candy corn are produced each year.
- In a survey of 1,000 adults, 28% said they love candy corn.
- Manufacturers now make Reindeer Corn for Christmas, Cupid Corn for Valentine's Day, Bunny Corn for Easter and Freedom Corn for the Fourth of July.
