The Steinmark Award is a prestigious award designated for the best of the best of Colorado HS multiple sport athletes who excel in academics, sports, school and community. In all classifications, it is awarded to one boy and one girl in Colorado each year. Did you know that Akon School has had three Steinmark Award winners in the past?

Winners in our history are:

David Hall 2002. David is married with four children living in Arvada, CO. David graduated college with a civil engineering degree and worked as an engineer for 15 years. He is currently back in school to get his master's degree in family counseling. (Son of our science teacher, Mr. Hall)

Sidney (Merrill) Spitzer 2013. Sidney is now living in Wiley, CO with her husband and one year old son. Sidney graduated with a degree in accounting. She works for Nutrien as an analyst, compliance & reporting tax professional. (Daughter of our former 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Merrill)

Jordan Baer-Suter 2015. Jordan is now living in Sterling, CO with her husband and one year old daughter (with a son due in April). Jordan graduated with a nursing degree and works as a nurse at Sterling Regional Medical Center. (Daughter of our former elementary teacher, Mrs. Baer and former high school girls basketball coach, Mr. Baer)

Saturday we had several 3rd - 6th graders participate in the Brain Bowl! All of our teams performed very well, but came up a little short of making the finals.

Rylee Roseberry, Kallen Bales and Kason Brent participated in the Regional Spelling Bee in Brush. Although they were short of placing, they gave great effort. Way to represent the Rams!

Our Akron HS Knowledge Bowl teams traveled to Greeley on Saturday for their regional competition. The varsity team ended up third at Regionals. They went into the last round tied for second and had a good day overall. They will know by Feb. 13 if their point total qualifies them for state, after all regional tournaments are done around the state.

Our JV team gained experience and learned some of the needed skills of competitive play.

Overall, it was a good day! Way to go Rams!

Mr. Samber's sophomore American History class visited the Washington County Nursing Home to have conversations with the residents about their life story.

There are not words to express the generosity the Akron School, Akron community, and the Northeastern Colorado area has shown the Akron Boys’ Basketball Team in their efforts to support the Couch family.

Wednesday the team presented Doug and Jennifer Couch with a check on behalf of everyone that joined together in the team’s “WE FIGHT WITH DOUG” campaign.

Once again, thank you everyone for your support! It’s great to be an Akron Ram!!

The MS wrestling team traveled to Yuma on Monday for a tournament.

Our HS wrestlers finished up their regular season tournament last weekend at Eaton. This Friday and Saturday they will host the regional tournament hoping to earn a trip to state.

The HS basketball teams have been very busy on the road and at home the last two weeks, and all the players have gotten a lot of court time. They are working hard and gearing up for end of season play.

Division of Wildlife is offering a Hunter Safety class on March 8 and 9 from 8 am to 4 pm each day. If you have questions, please call Robert at 970-466-0501

Any child, 4 years old by July 1st, 2024 planning on applying at Akron preschool for the 2024-25 school year should sign up for the Akron Child Find.
