The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
September 8, 2023
Dear Families,
Tuesday was the Official First Day of Kindergarten. There was a ton of excitement and only a few tears (and that was just the parents). Thank you to our PTA for making the day special with coffee and donuts and the chance to build community.
Unfortunately, we are already experiencing student illness this year. Please make sure to keep your child home if sick. Please see the the note from our school nurse below. As always, if your child will not be in school, please contact the office Attendance Line at 503-916-6256.
Thank you for your readership! I welcome your questions and feedback through email at pgwynn@pps.net.
Have a great weekend!
Principal Pam

A Little Bit About Me
Hello Llewellyn community! I am so excited to get to know you and all of our amazing readers! My name is Treasa Street, but the kids call me Ms. Street. I am your new teacher-librarian. One of the things I can't wait to see in action is Llewellyn's fantastic OBOB program. I have run 5 regional tournaments in the last 6 years, so I guess you could say I am looking forward to helping out any way I can. To get an idea of our library program, please look at the Llewellyn Library Website.
I live close by with my three children who are still in school (I have quite a large family...your students already know!), a cat, a magic color-changing dog, a bunny, and some chickens. I love to garden, kayak, hike, go to the farmer's market, and, of course, READ! If you see me out and about in the neighborhood, don't be afraid to say hello, but you will definitely need to remind me of your names or introduce yourselves while I'm getting to know your community.

From The Office
Now is the time to complete the Yearly Verification in ParentVue! (Having trouble getting into ParentVue? Contact the Office!) After logging in, click the Online Registration/Yearly Verification/Transfer Application button at the top of the screen. This is a good time to add Emergency Contacts. Remember: Only people on your Emergency Contact List can pick up your student. And we cannot add them over the phone; only thru ParentVue or in person. If you have an older student who is walking home without an adult, please add "Has Permission to Walk Home" as an Emergency Contact.
Questions? Contact the Office! You can log into ParentVue on a desktop here: https://parent-portland.cascadetech.org/portland/PXP2_Login.aspx
Parent Tip: Add Llewellyn as a contact in your phone (503-916-6216). That way you know it’s us calling and not a Spam call! This is especially important for when the nurse or office need to reach you due to an emergency regarding your student.
From the Nurse's Office
Welcome back to school, Llewellyn families!
Your school’s health team is looking forward to working with you and your child/children to keep everyone happy and healthy this school year. As a reminder, back to school can also mean back to increased exposures to common germs and illnesses. Already this year we have started to see an uptick in cases of gastrointestinal illness within our schools. This chart provides guidance for when to keep your students home, and when they can return to school.
In order to help prevent the spread of illness, continue encouraging your children to practice good hand hygiene by washing their hands before eating, after using the restroom, and after sneezing or coughing. Hand washing remains more effective than using hand sanitizer, especially against some of the leading causes of gastrointestinal illness. Please notify the school if your student is absent due to illness, and reach out to the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns about your student’s symptoms.
Sincerely, Melissa Monroy, RN mmonroy@mesd.k12.or.us
School Spirit Days
Every Friday will be a School Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Llewellyn gear new or old. One Friday per month will be a fun theme. On 9/29 will be Silly Sock Day.

News from the PTA
Welcome back everyone!
PTA Happenings
Here we are already in the second week of school! Kindergarten students started with their whole class this week and we have been getting some really great reports from both parents and students about how their days are going and all the routines they are practicing. Way to go kinder teachers and students!
We hosted a tears and cheers breakfast on Tuesday and so many kinder parents were able to connect with each other and hopefully make some future after school play dates. Joining Konstella was a topic for discussion so we wanted to cover some basics.
Konstella is what we use to inform you of all events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities in our school community. Teachers can also post photos, updates in the classroom or any other communication to those parents who are linked to their class. If you are being asked for an invitation code, we have one for you : PNS7TQ. We have seen this particular need when signing up on the app from your phone.Stay informed about all things Llewellyn by joining and making sure you add your child to their classroom so you can get updates from your teacher and class leads.
Class Leads are an integral part of our Llewellyn community! As a class lead you are a liaison between parents, teachers and PTA. You will support the teacher by organizing volunteers to plan special events and fun activities throughout the year as well as any classroom needs your teacher may have (reading volunteers, special projects, cutting out materials at home, etc.). You will also help with teacher appreciation gifts. The PTA provides a stipend for materials to each class lead. .You can choose to do it yourself or partner with one of our other amazing parents. You can email Kili Fern (kiliandethan@gmail.com) if you are interested and watch for a Konstella post soon!
The Back to School Picnic is this evening and we will have a table set up to share with you what you can do to help the PTA coordinate all the fun events we have planned for this year. We need parents to join so we can form committees that will work together to make this year amazing for our students. We want to do more for our teachers to show our appreciation for all their amazing work in the classroom as well as provide fun community events for families.
Upcoming Events:
September 8: Back to School Picnic—We will also kick off our new gear sale. Watch for flyers in your students folders.
September 19: Our first PTA meeting! It will be at The Bottleshop at 7 p.m. Let’s come and get to know new faces and reconnect with familiar ones.
September 21: Open House—Bring your family and get a look inside your child’s classroom to see what they have been learning and creating. PTA will also be available to answer any questions about gear, Konstella, and of course membership!
September 29— Gift Wrap sales begin! Look out for flyers in folders and on Konstella for more information on when to begin getting the word out.
Please take a moment to sign-up for Konstella, the platform the Llewellyn PTA uses to share the following information:
- Community Events
- School Directory (there will be NO printed directory this year)
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Classroom Events (coordinated by class leads)
To sign up please visit: https://www.konstella.com/cd/PNS7TQ
