TRAUMA INFORMED TIP
These are Dixie kids. At school. First thing in the morning. We have six rebounders, or mini trampolines. Kids can ask their teacher for a pass to jump before the morning bell rings. What a wonderful way to wake up, become energized and get the heart pumping. And did you know A University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) study indicates that 10-year-olds who are physically fit perform better on a variety of cognitive tests than their out-of-shape peers? It’s true. “MRI scans determined that the hippocampus — a brain region that contributes to spatial reasoning and memory — was 12 percent larger in the children who exercised, according to an article by https://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/fifth-grader-brain-development/. Recently in my quest to get more fit, I tried jumping rope. It was exhilarating until my knee protested. Jumping on the ground is hard on the knees, but the mini trampoline is more forgiving and less jarring on the knees. It can help kids get out energy and become more focused. This can be especially helpful for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). And, it might just help kids with things like math facts when rebounding is paired with rote memorization. Check this this article about the benefits of using a rebounder for kids and adults alike: https://www.sanfranfitness.co.uk/the-benefits-of-rebounding-for-children/. So, what are you waiting for? Get moving…and get your kids moving too.
