Message from Superintendent Mike Johnson
This week, I've enjoyed my visits to the school campuses immensely. Our elementary students are learning quickly and establishing routines. Engaging and conversing with the middle schoolers and CMS staff is always uplifting. With homecoming spirit filling CHS, I was impressed with the creativity and hard work the students and advisers put into decorating the hallways based on their chosen themes. These visits provide a wonderful reminder of the incredible work taking place on our campuses. During difficult times, it can be easy to overlook the many positive moments that happen in a day -- the feeling of achievement a student has when they grasp a challenging concept or the friendly greeting a bus driver provides that starts a morning off right. They are happening all around us. Our students and staff are making important progress. As a district, we are here to support them and, as a community, have every reason to be proud of them all.
CSD 25+ Heroes
This week's CSD 25+ Hero is Luanda Simon. Lu, as she is affectionately called in the halls of Creslane Elementary, started working in special education at CSD in 1990 and has been doing so ever since. When asked what she most enjoys about her work and what keeps her going on difficult days, she says, "It all comes back to the kids. If we can make a difference, a good memory that our kids can hold in their hearts ... it is worth the effort." Thank you, Lu, for all you do each day and for your years of service to Creswell School District!
Creswell Food 4 Kids
Creswell Food 4 Kids (CF4K) is a Creswell community-sponsored program that, on Fridays, delivers kid-friendly food bags filled with items the students can have for their meals on the weekends. CF4K is not a government funded program; it is run completely by donations of food, money, time, and help from our local Creswell community. Every participating family needs to complete the application annually, even if they have participated previously. If your CSD student has a need for this program, click here to view CF4K's online application.
Creslane's Safety Patrol helps increase driver awareness and model safety for our students.
Hockey is a great way to fit in exercise at CMS.
Homecoming week activities at CHS included games in the courtyard.
OSAA Sportsmanship Nomination - CHS Varsity Girls Soccer
Congratulations to our Creswell High School Varsity Girls Soccer team for their recent OSAA Sportsmanship Award nomination. This recognition program gives OSAA sport officials an opportunity to highlight positive sportsmanship they see on the field. In a recent match, one of the officials noticed that CHS' team exhibited the qualities they look for in teams, programs and communities around the state. Because sportsmanship is based on respect and the treatment of others, we are especially proud of all the team members and coaches involved. Congratulations and Go Bulldogs!
National Principals Month
October is National Principals Month and Creswell School District is fortunate to have some of the best. We hope you'll enjoy learning a bit more about our school administrators over the coming weeks.
Jenny Collins is principal at Creswell High School. This is her second year at CHS and, when asked about what she enjoys most about working at CSD, she shared her appreciation for the community of students, families, and educators. "I love small town (rural) schools and the commitment and passion everyone pours into the district ... Elementary, Middle and High School. It really is a K-12 education where the success of every student is celebrated."
We are so happy to celebrate you, Ms. Jenny! Happy National Principals Month!
Preschool Promise - Openings Available
Preschool Promise is a publicly-funded, high-quality preschool for 3- and 4- year old children. To qualify, families must meet age, income, and residency requirements. Spaces are still available in Creswell and nearby communities. For more information and application details, click here.
