Stonybrook Red Storm Forecast

January 11, 2021

Stonybrook RedStorm ForecastJanuary 11, 2021

From Principal Smith

Dear Stonybrook parents and caregivers,

It has been great seeing our students and teachers engaged in teaching and learning. Students are doing a great job connecting with the teachers via zoom and learning despite not being in-person.

Enrichment Opportunities

COVID-19 has created stress and uncertainty in all of our lives. It has also impacted our students because of the lack of in-person learning based on the Marion County Health Department's safety guidance regarding learning during the COVID pandemic. We are committed to support all of our students to ensure that extra help is available for those who need it. Our plan to provide extra academic assistance is as follows:

  • Beginning the week of January 11, 2021 we will provide tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. We will have buses to transport your child home, but they will need to be dropped off at door 1 at 4:00pm. Please email your grade level counselor if you intend to use this service everyday or occasionally.

    5th grade: Mr. James - mjames1@warren.k12.in.us
    6th grade: Ms. Roberts - kroberts2@warren.k12.in.us
    7th grade: Mrs. Gullion - jgullion@warren.k12.in.us
    8th grade: Mrs. Nicholson - mnichol1@warren.k12.in.us

  • We are offering Virtual Learning Hub Remediation on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Student can reach out to their teachers if they need additional help, however, teachers will be contacting families of students who are struggling academically to inform them of the time that students will need to join the zoom sessions for remediation.

  • We are also having face-to face Learning Hub Remediation for students who we have identified as the most in need of the service based on fall 2020 NWEA math and ELA scores and their current grades. This is an "by invitation only" service. Face to face Learning Hubs will begin on January 19th. Virtual Learning Hubs will begin on January 12th. Teachers will be emailing you and your student their virtual LH time and zoom link.

District Second Semester Return Plan

5th grade students will continue to have virtual learning five days a week and 6th-8th grade students will have virtual learning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and application days on Tuesday and Thursdays. This will be the schedule while we are 100% virtual. Upon our return to face to face AND virtual learning in February, we will return to the Black and Gold schedule.

Our 5th grade students will remain virtual until January 15th and will return to school, face to face, on January 19th. 5th grade students who were virtual before winter break, will remain virtual on January 19th.

6th-8th grade students who were HYBRID (came to school, face to face, on their Black or Gold schedule), will remain virtual until February 12th and will return to school, on their HYBRID Black or Gold schedule on Wednesday, February 17th.

Third Quarter Material Pick-Up

We still have several students and families who need to pick up learning materials that will be used during the third instructional quarter. Materials can be picked up in the front office between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM daily. Please only send one family member into the office to retrieve materials.

MSD Warren Continues Food Distribution. Starting the week of January 4, food distributions will occur Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Moorhead Community Resource Center, Warren Central High School, Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook Intermediate Middle Schools.

Thank you for your flexibility during these trying times. We will continue to do our very best to keep all students engaged and learning as will finish up this school year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Smith

School Choice Opportunities for Second Semester

Families with students in grades 6th-8th grade will be able to request their second semester learning model choice, HYBRID IN-PERSON / VIRTUAL or 100% VIRTUAL starting on Friday, January 15th until Friday, January 29th at 4 PM. The request forms will be linked on our website. Similar to K-5, this will be the last opportunity to request a change for the 2020-21 school year.

5-8 WIDA Testing

5th-8th

WIDA testing will begin on January 11, 2021 for all identified English Learner students. 5th grade students will begin testing on their return to in-person instruction during the week of January 18th. Parents of 6th - 12th grade students will be contacted to arrange a date and time for your child to be tested. You can bring your child to school on their designated testing date or your school can arrange transportation. Please complete this form if your child will require transportation. Please note that if your child will be using bus transportation, they will remain at school for the entire day. If you have questions, please contact: Mrs. Peckham @ lpeckham@warren.k12.in.us or Ms. Anderson @sanderso2@warren.k12.in.us

Grados 5th-8th

Si tiene preguntas, comuníquese con: Mrs. Peckham @ lpeckham@warren.k12.in.us or Ms. Anderson @sanderso2@warren.k12.in.us
