I hope this email finds you all healthy and well. Fourth quarter has certainly been an adjustment. It’s amazing to think how much has changed in such a short amount of time. While Governor Dewine’s announcement about the remainder of the school year gives us some finality about things, it brings about a whole new host of questions. We are having to make some difficult decisions about our end of year events and processes for closing out the school year. We will communicate our plan as soon as the details are finalized in upcoming days.
This week wraps up a whole month of remote learning. We miss seeing our students in person but are so proud of how they are engaging in the remote learning opportunities provided by their teachers. As we continue off-site learning, please know that we understand that every household is dealing with this unprecedented time differently and want to do everything we can to help support students and parents. We are very fortunate that we had many online learning platforms in place prior to closure. With that in mind, please encourage your students to check their email and Google classrooms regularly. If you or your students have questions, technology issues, time constraints due to working from home (or out of the home), or a student that is really struggling please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teachers, guidance counselor, Mr. Baker or myself.
Additionally, we would love to hear from you! Please shoot me a quick email to let me know how your student and family are doing. We’d love feedback on how remote learning is going. What’s working well? How can we improve? Your input is crucial to help us adjust to these uncertain times of teaching and learning.
At Coy Middle School, we are a family and as a family, we will endure this crisis together. It is our sincere hope that each of you are taking the necessary precautions to keep yourself and your family safe. Thank you for your patience and your continued support during this ever changing situation.
Sincerely,
Andrea Ferguson
Mr. Josh Baker, Assistant Principal
Hello Coy Families!
"Do the best you can." I continue to say this to myself and my family members through these unprecedented time. That's all that we can do. There may be work or lessons or figuring out Google Classroom that may be challenging to figure out during this period of remote learning. We are here to help! Please feel free to email your child's teacher, counselor or principals to get assistance. Our children are looking to us in how we respond to adversity and will likely respond in the same way when faced with a situation they feel is difficult. Just do the best you can.
In the same way, our staff are working to figure out ways to balance their professional responsibilities while also taking care of their families. All of our staff are adjusting to the new realities and are strongly committed to continuing to provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students. We appreciate your support and understanding that you have given us and we will continue to work as hard as we can to serve you and your children to the best of our abilities.
Please take time to take care of yourself. For me, maintaining as many routines as possible throughout the day and staying connected with our staff and serving our students has been incredibly helpful throughout the last month. We miss our students so much and I hope you know how committed we are to continue doing our best for our students and community as I know you are too.
Sincerely,
Josh Baker

Counselor Connection
It is a very strange time. There have been many changes to the way we are used to doing things. One of the biggest changes is the change from going to school every day to doing teaching and learning online. Who would have ever thought that we would not be allowed to go to school. (I am guilty of praying for snow days, but would have never asked for this.) There are all kinds of unsettling discussions going on around us about the Covid 19 Pandemic. During this time, it is very important to take care of yourself.
Ideas to Help During this Weird Time!
Eat regularly and eat healthy food too
Drink plenty of water
Exercise often
Do things to destress
Keep your space clean and free of clutter
Stay connected by checking in with family and friends
Keep a routine
Keep yourself updated on the facts but don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed by them
Spend quality time with family
Practice good hygiene and monitor your health
Ideas to Help Destress
Exercise (walk your dog, go for a run, shoot some hoops…)
Do relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditating and being present in the moment are helpful.
Reach out to those you trust and talk.
Do the things you love, your hobbies.
When possible, avoid triggers
Go easy on yourself. Just do your best and be okay with it.
Think positively.
Get enough sleep but not too much (8-10 hours.)
Take breaks.
Eat healthy and drink plenty of water.
