June 8, 2020
While School is out...
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our faculty, staff and the TMHS PAC for all of their help and support this past week with all of the graduation festivities! We all worked together within the confines of state and local restrictions to create the most special graduation for our Class of 2020! Congratulations again to the Class of 2020!!!
This is my last communication as Principal of TMHS and I want to thank you all for sharing your wonderful children with us. It has been a privilege and an honor to the Principal of TMHS for the past six years. I will miss you all and you will always have a place in my heart.
Have a wonderful summer and stay healthy everyone!
National Honor Society Drive
The NHS Chapter for Tewksbury Memorial High School’s Class of 2021 is making June the month of donation drives! Every week, starting this week, there will be donation drives to help our community as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. For members of NHS, donating items or participating in collections will count as one of three compulsory service activities, with participation in one drive counting as one activity that you participated in. For everyone, participation in these drives is a great way to give back to our community where there are numerous people struggling to get everyday necessities due to job losses, etc. As mentioned before, each drive will last roughly a week, with one collection date at the end of each week to gather all donations and drop them off to their respective places. The drives that will be held are…
Week 1 (June 4th- June 11th): There will be a Food Drive. Canned food and non-perishable items are appreciated, which will be donated to the Tewksbury Food Pantry! The collection date will be June 11th at MVP from 11:00 to 11:30 am.
Week 2 (June 11th - June 18th): There will be a Clothing Drive. Any type of clothing is appreciated, and all clothing will be donated to a local organization known as Catie’s Closet! The collection date will be June 18th at MVP from 11:00 to 11:30 am.
Week 3 (June 18th - June 25th): There will be a Toiletry Drive. Items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste are appreciated, and all items will be donated to a local organization known as the House of Hope! The collection date will be June 25th at MVP from 11:00 to 11:30 am.
MVP’s address is 2087 Main Street, Tewksbury MA 01876. If there any questions, please contact any of the NHS officers through Remind or through Instagram @Tmhs.Nhs.

Optional Third Quarter Assignment
Remote Learning Week of June 8-12th
- All teachers will allow students to use the week of June 8th-12th to make up any Remote Learning assignment(s) that students may not have been able to complete, for whatever reason. There will also be an optional assignment that week for students who may want to complete an assignment that week. Students can find information on their teacher's google classrooms.
Semester 2 Grading
Understanding that we will now be in a Remote Learning Environment through to the last day of school on June 15th, we have worked out the following grading plan:
Grade Semester 2 as Credit/No Credit:
1. Eliminate Quarter 4 & Final Exam for Semester 2 grading purpose
2. Semester 2 elective courses will be graded Pass/Fail(Credit/No Credit).
3. The Semester 2 Credit/No Credit Grade for spring 2020 will not be factored into calculating a student’s overall GPA.
Semester 2 (Q3-Q4) elective courses (2.5 credits)
Students’ final grade will be calculated based on two components:
Work completed prior to March 13, 2020
Work completed during the Remote Learning period
Students will receive credit for completing the work described above. Students who do not complete the Remote Learning activities, will most likely not receive credit.
4. GPA Calculations
For courses taken during the 2019-2020 school year, GPA calculations will be based on final grades for full-year and first-semester courses. Half-year (2.5 credit) courses taken during the second semester will not be factored into the GPA calculation.
Colleges and Universities are all aware that circumstances for this school year are unlike any other in our lifetime and are adapting their admission processes. Remember every school in the country and around the world has been impacted.
TMHS will note any changes on our academic profile so that all colleges will continue to know what a rigorous academic program we are continuing to provide.
The following have not changed:
Only Final year end grades appear on Transcripts and are shared with Colleges.
Only Quarter grades are used when calculating GPA.
Only final year end grades are used in determining: National Honor Society; High Honors; Honors; etc..
Semester 1 Grades are the last grades used to calculate Seniors’ GPA as it pertains to recognizing top performing students for recognition nationally, regionally and locally.
Utilizing a Credit/No Credit Grading Model for 2nd Semester accomplishes the following:
Complies with the Department of Education Commissioner Jeff Reilly’s recommendation for Remote Learning to be graded Credit/No Credit.
Stays consistent with Tewksbury Memorial High School’s awarding of a Semester Grade & accompanying credit towards graduation.
Is equitable and fair to all students.
Recognizes that ⅓ rd of 3rd Qtr. and all of 4th Qtr (12 ½ weeks of the 18 week 2nd Semester) will have been spent in a remote learning environment ( Credit/No Credit)
Creates a unified platform for grading where all students will be graded as Credit/No Credit.
