Sonora Elementary Mission and Vision
Mission
Sonora Elementary’s mission is to provide a safe community where high levels of learning are ensured for ALL.
Vision
The vision of Sonora Elementary School is to provide a future of opportunities in a rapidly changing world through an inclusive environment that: ensures children learn essential standards, encourages ALL to persevere when faced with challenges, and empowers students through choice and voice. To live this reality we believe that the most promising strategy is to develop our capacity to be a professional learning community. We envision a school in which staff:
Unite to achieve a common purpose.
Work interdependently in collaborative teams.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to the academic success and general well-being of each student.
Please label your child's clothing
Remember to label your child's clothing, especially backpacks, jackets, coats. We want to make sure that if an item loses the owner, we can reunite them. Here is an article on multiple ways to label clothes.

Our mission statement is high learning for ALL! Please use this form to nominate a staff member who exemplifies our mission of high learning ! Each recipient will receive a certificate, be announced on the morning announcements, and posted on social media. We will recognize our students with the 'W.I.S.E.' as they are nominated by teachers or peers. #theresnoplacelikesonora
Transportation, Arrival and Dismissal
As we begin a new school year, we want to share our procedures for arrival and dismissal. Please be patient with us during the first two weeks as families are adjusting to new schedules/routines and the children are learning new routines. We will be using School Safe ID for the second year. After routines are established the dismissal process be efficient. It will only work if we have everyone's cooperation. Our main goal is to ensure that every Scholar gets home safely.
Arrival
We will continue to have two drop off sites (see graphic below). When students enter the building they will be seated in the hallway outside their classroom. Students are tardy at 7:45 a.m. Please do not drop off students before 7:30 AM.
Dismissal
At the end of each day students will be dismissed from the back hallway on the east side of the building. In order to do this efficiently and safely we NEED your help and patience! Below are our procedures for picking up your child.
- Car riders will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m. to a grade level specific area inside the building for dismissal. All car riders will be picked up by the last doors on the East side of the school. The earliest cars will begin to be loaded is 3:20 p.m. Families must remain in their cars while waiting. Please do not walk up to the doors of the school to pick up your child when children are exiting the building. Each family will receive two car tags. Additional or replacement car tags will be $2.00 each. These will be ready for pick up on August 10th at the Pop in Party or sent home on the first day of school with the oldest child in the family.
- Bus riders will be dismissed at the back of the building.
To ensure safety of all children and an efficient dismissal process, all parents or guardians must display the car tags when they enter the school driveway. Put them on your rear view mirror so they can be easily be seen. Leave the tag hanging until you leave campus. If you do not have a car rider tag, you will be asked to go to the front office, which will cause a delay in your child's dismissal. You will need your ID to come in and pick up your child/children.
CHANGES IN DISMISSAL
- You can no longer contact your child's teacher about a change in dismissal. All changes MUST be made through the office.
- You MUST call the office prior to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On the early out Wednesdays, all changes need to be made to the office by noon. If you want to request a an alternate plan for dismissal. This would include someone when else is coming to pick up your child, changing from bus to car rider, etc.
Early check out and late check in will remain contactless. The information will be on the back of each car tag.
Bus Riders will be dismissed at 3:10 PM: The buses will pick up and drop off in the back of the building.
Looking for options for how to avoid the traffic light. We made this video to show you other options.

He's back!
Thanks to a generous donation from The Hallmark family, Sonora Elementary has a full-time therapy dog. His name is Tripp and Janelle Harp, school counselor, is his owner and handler. Tripp is a standard GoldenDoodle which means he is considered hypoallergenic because he has little to no shedding. Tripp has been training for his important role at Sonora since November 2022. Tripp has passed all required trainings to be a certified therapy dog. Below are a list of benefits schools experience from having a therapy dog.
Increased school attendance.
Positive changes lead to better learning and enhanced motivation.
Growth in confidence levels.
Development of better and stronger relationships with teachers and peers due to the experience of trust and love with therapy dogs.
All students must have parent permission to interact with Tripp. Please click the link below to fill out the needed form.
Springdale Schools participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program, funded by USDA.
