TOPS 4th Grade Weekly Newsletter

Each Friday you will receive a grade level newsletter with important information needed to plan your upcoming week. Since you have one more week of orientation, you are receiving a special edition of the newsletter crafted specifically for students who started with us on September 26.

You will see Class Connect (CC) sessions on your daily plan for course sessions outside of orientation. You are not required to attend those sessions this week. However, you are free to drop in and see what class is like.

Welcome to 4th Grade ELA (English Language Arts) at TOPS! I am your Please follow the daily/weekly plan online in order to access the correct lessons. We are starting a "You Need to Make a Choice" Novel Study unit 4 in Literature so you will need to select a book to read from the lesson list and borrow or purchase a copy of the book from the library or your local book store ASAP. Please join me in my ELA Orientation Session on Tuesday @ 11:00 am so that we can go over all the expectations and requirements for ELA and to answer any questions you may have. A great big WELCOME to our new TOPS students! I am so happy to have you in 4th grade Science. This week you won’t need anything except your working headset, a science journal/notebook, a pencil, and your imagination. We can start work from there.

You will have a lesson to complete for next week (listed below), and we will discuss how we will proceed from this point on in our content orientation session on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd at 9am. Your Course Prep Plan listed below is a foundational lesson that will help you to get started in 4th grade Science. DON’T WORRY, we’re going to make sure that you can understand what we have been studying and where we are going from here. Remember that you can always reach out to me with any questions that you may have about science or anything else. See you in class!

4th grade Course Prep Plan for the week of Oct. 1-5: Unit 2, Lesson 2: Producers, Consumers, and Decomposers

Welcome to 4th-grade social studies! We are learning some exciting things about Texas and we are happy to have you join us! Currently, we are working in unit 2. You will see the following lessons on your plan:

• Lesson 3 – People of the Mountains and Basins

• Lesson 4 – Europeans Explore the Hemisphere

Welcome to 4th grade Music! This week we will learn how to navigate the music program, Music Studio. Check your email for a PDF file from me about Music Studio (it will also be available in the file share in the OLS). There are also some directions and helpful hints in the Music Reference Guide book you received in the mail with your materials.

Every week you will check the grade level newsletter to see which Music Studio lessons to complete. Just open Unit 1, Lesson 1 in the OLS and click the link to take you to Music Studio! (I marked everything else as skipped in the OLS because there isn't any content in those lessons. You can just ignore the skipped ones.)

Welcome to 4th grade!!! I am very excited to begin our classes. We have a fun year ahead of us full of activities, projects and much, much more. This week you will continue with orientation sessions. We will practice using the BBC tools and navigate through the OLS.
