February 2023
DEAR FAMILIES & FRIENDS:
We made it through the first month and half of the year! According to certain furry creature, we can expect more winter and colder temperatures! This has been quite a winter and it will be interesting to see when Spring will arrive and how planting will go! Elena has been busy planning, purchasing and separating seeds for all our schools! We have also been having fun in classrooms planting seeds for a lessons on roots. It might seem a little early to start buying seeds, but planning ahead is a great strategy for staying ahead! Have you started thinking about your garden? Check out our how to build a raised garden bed below or this guide to starting a school garden!
We are planning some exciting field trips at Courtade and Buckley schools in the month of March, so look out for those!
We held a virtual cooking class at Courtade Elementary and had 25 families participate! Thanks so much to chef Adam Raupp for leading the class in making vegetable lasagna!
If your child attends Buckley school, we are looking for a couple more families to register for our virtual cooking class on Thursday, February 23rd from 6-7pm! Register here!
Lifespan lessons in January focused on making smarter snack choices! Students in K-3rd grades made "butterflies" for snack and played a guessing game called, "Snacks on Backs" where their classmates had to give clues to the student to guess the snack on their back. Students love guessing games and snacks! Our 4/5th grade classrooms made Chinese American Fried Rice and really loved it! We talked about the cost savings of making the recipe at home vs eating out. It's pretty amazing how much you can save with a little pre-planning and home cooked meals!
In Buckley we have been convening with the school board and community members to make plans for the proposed mountain biking trails on a piece of property close to the school. We are thrilled about the excitement and involvement we are getting from the community and look forward to planning a clean up day in late April! Let us know if you are interested!
In the month of February lessons in the younger grades have focused on the benefits of physical activity and with Valentine's Day this month, students learned how to take care of their heart! They learned about about heart rate and that their heart is a muscle!
As always take care of yourself, mind and body!
