March 2023
A message from the principal
Dear Parent/Guardian,
It was wonderful to see so many parents and students at Reading NIght. The students did a great job reading through the month of February. March will be a short month due to spring break. The end of the 2nd trimester is March 9th. Report cards will be sent home with students after spring break. Take care and be safe. Happy March!
Mrs. Ray
Parent Pick Up Reminder
- Please have your sign out and visible on the front window with your child's name on it so staff can see each afternoon.
- Remind your child to please stay off the snow banks for safety purposes.
- Please enter and exit the car on the passenger side for safety purposes. We try our best to get students as close to the car as possible before we allow them to walk in the street because of the snow banks.
- If you need to change the way your student goes home, please call the office at 763-506-2600 before 3:30pm. For the safety of all our students, we are unable to accommodate changes once dismissal starts.
CHANGE TO THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
School Board voted to amend the 2022-23 school year calendar. The last day of school for elementary students will now be Wednesday, June 7, while secondary students will have their last day Thursday, June 8
The School Board approved a change to the district calendar at its December 12 meeting, converting June 8 to a non-student contact day at the elementary level. There will be no change to the schedule at the secondary level.
This change will allow elementary staff additional time to prepare for transitions that will occur from the current school year to the next, including the closing of Franklin Elementary School and boundary changes across the district.

Volunteer news
Did you know helping others makes you happier?
When researchers at the London School of Economics examined the relationship between volunteering and measures of happiness in a large group of American adults, they found the more people volunteered, the happier they were, according to a study in Social Science and Medicine.
If you know a grandparent, community member, or high schooler who would be willing to work with our students, have them sign up! It makes a huge difference in a child's confidence when adults show they value education enough to give something as precious as time. We really appreciate all the support our families give to Franklin.
K-Skillbuilders
Help Kindergartners build literacy and math skills by becoming a K-Skillbuilder. A 2-hour training is required and provided. The activities are easy to follow, and it really helps our students grow.
Reading Helpers
Our First Grade team has been benefiting from Reading Helpers, but we need more helpers! Similar to K-Skillbuilders, we ask that you commit to 45-60 minutes once a week, for a minimum of 3 weeks at a time. The students love the extra attention!
Lightning PTO Meeting
Join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) on March 9th at 5:30pm to hear what they are doing to help our school and how you can be involved.
Looking for more? Find all the current sign-ups here.
Whether you're here for 30 minutes once a month, or you spend an hour helping every week, you are appreciated. On behalf of the students and staff at Franklin Elementary, thank you for partnering with us to make Franklin the best it can be!
A message from the nurse
Students should enter and exit the car on the passenger side of the car for safety reasons. Also parents should not block the driveways of the residences on Wingfield Ave. And lastly, make sure that all cars have their students' pink paper with their names visible so staff can see them.
If you need to change the way your student goes home, please call the office at 763-506-2600 before 3:30pm. For the safety of all our students, we are unable to accommodate changes once dismissal starts.
