Panther Prowl
Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings, Panther Families
We are gearing up for what is the busiest time of the year for our school with testing--ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), PFT (physical fitness test), SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium), CAST (California Science Test), and AP (Advance Placement)--you can follow this link for more information about our state testing requirements: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/. In addition to state mandates, we are already working on closing out the 2018-19 school year and getting ready for the 2019-20 school year. Our winter sports season is just about over, but we still have four girl wrestlers in the state finals...and our spring sports season has just kicked off with swim, boys volleyball, track & field, baseball, and softball. Our counselors have been busy registering students for next year.
As communicated in the previous edition of the Panther Prowl, we have had much reason to celebrate the academic successes of our Panthers across our school community. We will continue with our academic excellence as teachers continue to push our students beyond their limits. With that, it's always a great day to be a PANTHER!
Respectfully,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.

This will definitely help our school build and maintain our newly offered Computer Science program through our STEM Academy! Thank you and congratulations to our very own Mr. Patrick Chao (STEM coordinator and math & Computer Science teacher), who applied for the grant! This will help us grow our AP courses in the field of Computer Science! You can learn more about the program here: https://www.amazonfutureengineer.com/

February Awareness
- February is the shortest month but is packed full of holidays, from Valentine’s Day to Presidents’ Day. February is also National Random Acts of Kindness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to reinforce compassion and empathy in your child.
- Performing a random act of kindness is exactly what it sounds like: deliberately attempting to brighten someone else’s day by doing something kind for no specific reason. The intention behind it is to practice selflessness and altruism, but research has shown that there are, in fact, many benefits to practicing kindness. For children, showing kindness towards family, friends, their community, and strangers strengthens skills such as respect, responsibility, empathy, and compassion.
- There are so many ways for you to join in and participate in this month. Take a look at a few ideas: https://www.bgcconejo.org/february-is-random-acts-of-kindness-month/
- Every year, approximately 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that 3 in 4 parents have never talked to their children about domestic violence. In light of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates join efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.
