December Edition

Happy holidays! As we enter into the holiday season, it is also a recognition that we completed the first semester of the school year. Due to our adaptive pause, Maple report cards will not be sent home until January 21st. This will give our students a chance to acclimate back to school after the new year and then finish up their assessments.

I want to thank each of you for your patience through the last month. With the rise in Covid cases in the area, we have had to endure many absences and an adaptive shut down. I appreciate your understanding while we muddle through all things Covid that come our way. Our goal is to educate students to the best of our ability while keeping students, families and staff safe.

I hope you enjoy your holiday break and find some time to relax with your children. School dismisses for Christmas break at 2:05 on Friday, December 17th. Staff will report on January 3rd, 2022, for a professional development day and students will return to a regular schedule on Tuesday, January 4th.

Maple School Improvement

The Maple Building Leadership Team, in conjunction with stakeholders, has been working this year on completing a new school improvement plan. This is a year long project, but we have five areas we are focusing on:

English Language Arts
Math
English Language Arts with a Special Education focus
Attendance
Social Emotional Learning

As the plan formulates, we will share out the plan components.

In Remembrance of Tara Fares

As many of you know, Tara Fares, a first grade teacher at Maple Grade School, passed away on December 7th, after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Fares was a loving, dedicated teacher who served the Hoopeston Area school district for 25 1/2 years. She was known for building beautiful relationships with her students and families. She instituted the lending library at Maple, which sits outside of her classroom on the North side of the building. Mrs. Fares instilled the love of reading into all students who entered her classroom. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues and students.
