Greetings Mustangs!

It's official - the beautiful weather is here and we are in the final stretch of the school year! This was a wonderful week back from Spring Break with our Mustangs! Students in both buildings enjoyed being able to go outside for some of their learning. From free reading to nature walks, it has been fantastic to see firsthand that learning can happen anytime, anywhere!

Next week is Severe Weather Week. Students in both buildings will be discussing what to do in the event of a tornado or other severe weather conditions. We will also be engaging in the statewide tornado drill on Thursday, at approximately 1:45pm. As a reminder, sirens will sound in the community at this time; do not be alarmed (pun intended) this is only a drill.

Ms. Pearson has passed the Golden Horseshoe along to... Mrs. Ann Schleusner! According to Ms. Pearson, Ann is so deserving of this award! She goes above and beyond for ALL children and works hard to support her colleagues at the same time. She comes in with a smile and a positive attitude, and each day shows that she loves what she does. Congratulations Mrs. Schleusner!

The week of April 17th-21st is Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Emergency Management team and the five National Weather Service Forecast Offices that service Wisconsin are asking that everyone take time to go over their safety plans so that they will be ready when severe weather strikes. Congrats to our BMS Students of Greatness for the month of March!

Our Kindergarteners have been learning about and experimenting with different forms of measurement. They have been using non-standard measurement to measure length and height, balance scales to measure weight, and different size measuring cups/spoons to measure capacity. The kids have really been enjoying these hands-on activities and have become experts in measurement. Awesome job on being great mathematicians, Mustangs!

Mrs. Bullock's Entrepreneurship Class has been engaging in project-based learning for the past several weeks. Working in small groups, these students engaged in market research to identify snacks and products that appealed to students and staff. They then had to put together a sales pitch for Mrs. Franz, to include a rationale for the sale of their item, pricing (cost and profit), and a gameplan to actually produce and sell the item at school. The big sale was held in the cafeteria during the "Spring Into Break" celebration. Students in all grade levels were able to purchase gourmet popcorn, snowcones, lemonade, and more! Even better, our budding entrepreneurs got their first taste of what it takes to start their own businesses. Awesome job, Mustangs!

Attention athletes: This is a reminder that middle school track begins next week for students in grades 6-8. Track practice will be after school and will finish up at 4pm. Students should be picked up at that time. Looking forward to starting our season!

Academic Lab will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when school is in session.

• Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.

• At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.

• Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.

• Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.

• The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).

Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.

Throughout the school year Brookwood has many opportunities for parents to partner with the school through volunteering. Some of these will include, but not limited to, chaperoning field trips, assisting during classroom activities, large school or district wide events, etc. To ensure the safety of all our students, all volunteers need to submit and pass a background check. These forms can be completed ahead of time and individuals will be added to the approved volunteer list. This is good for the school year. If you intend to volunteer, feel free to complete the attached forms and send the forms to your child's school office. Thank you for your cooperation and involvement.
