Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of April 28th through May 4th, 2022
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Tonight, we have our final series of parent-teacher conferences for the year. We’re using a new system to schedule conferences from PTCFast.com. Please see the email I sent the weekend for more instructions. If you couldn’t schedule a time, please connect with teachers by email.
This past weekend saw our first traditional prom in two years. Over 420 students attended the dance at Oak View Acres, and, by all accounts, it was a smashing success. We appreciate all the efforts of staff and students who made this a night to remember.
This week our art students have hosted an art show at CHS. There are numerous examples from talented artists. Please see the pictures below. The show is open to all students during working hours. Students, please check it out!
As seen in our last newsletter, bond work has started at CHS! We’ve cleared out several spaces and some internal demolition has already begun. More visible destruction of our old custodial shed and the old locker rooms will start soon. Look for more pictures in the coming newsletters.
Finally, next week (May 2-6) is Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, more than ever, has been challenging as our staff works to bring students back and provide meaningful educational opportunities for all. We appreciate our teachers and we hope you do as well!
Have a good week and Go Cougars!

Principal

The Cantalinas, Mixed Choir, Bella Voce, and Contra Voce will also perform a portion of their songs. There is no admission, but viewers are encouraged to make donations to the Canby Choir Program. Money is needed for robes, equipment repair, music, instruments. The concert choir has been training hard to improve their songs and get better at sight reading. Plant Taxi Service
This weekend (Sat Apr 30 and Sun May 1) is the Master Garden Show at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds. At this show, CHS students have a very unique fundraising opportunity - they provide "plant taxi service" to people buying plants, in exchange for tips. Please come support CHS students!
Royal Cougar/Talent Show
Check out the exceptional talent of our students as they compete for the coveted recognition of the “Royal Cougar.” Thursday, April 28th, 7-9pm in the FAC
Sweeney Todd
Mark your calendars to join us in the presentation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This musical by Stephen Sondheim is based on the 1973 play of the same name by Christopher Bond. Our performances are scheduled for May 5-6 and 12-14. More information is coming soon.
Seniors and Graduation
Senior locker decorations
There are lots of questions about what we are doing for senior lockers this year. We are updating the process and should have that out to families in the next week. Thank you for your patience. For Graduation, please go to this LINK (information will be updated here). Again, it is under “Quick Links” on the right and you click on “Graduation Information.”
Graduation All-Night Party (GAP)
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2022 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 3rd. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's your students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of days before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.
Families were emailed and texted a link to two GAP information sheets on 4.13.22. Here they are again:

Attendance and Sick Students
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
To report an absence, call our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Please report an absence as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after the absence.
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment, inform the attendance office as soon as possible. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
