Principal's Message
Dear Niton Central School Community,
The School Council meeting is tomorrow, Monday, January 17 at 10 a.m. The link and agenda is posted below.
We had a great week of in-school learning last week. Please use the Bus App to keep informed of bus delays and cancelations. All bus riders must wear a mask on busses. It is important to note that masks are required in grades 4 - 12 and recommended in grades k - 3 as they were before the break. We have masks and we will be receiving more as well as at-home Rapid Tests. The government issued masks and Rapid Tests have not yet arrived. If you would like a rapid test sent home when they become available, please call the office. No student will be given a Rapid Test at school. This will be a parent responsibility if your family chooses to utilize the Rapid Test Kits.
Our new timetable went smoothly last week. I am enjoying my teaching time! Skating has started up and individual teachers have sent out schedules for their classes.
JH basketball practices commence tomorrow, January 17 with the girls and games previous to this date are rescheduled.
Have a great week!
Ms. Jan Wiens, Principal

UPDATED Parent Guide to Covid-19
1. Please call the school to report any confirmed COVID tests and to inform us of any absences.
2. If you are coming to the front door or inside the building please wear a mask and sanitize your hands at the front door.
3. If children are sick please keep them at home. We will continue to call parents if a child starts to display symptoms while at school.
Winter is here...
Please ensure your student is dressed for the outside weather. Some students may need an extra pair of socks and mitts in case they become wet. Grades K - 6 students go outside three times per day until the temperature (including windchill) reaches -20 C. We always include the windchill when we are gauging the temperature
Message from transportation:
It is the time of year when there has been a number of weather conditions that have caused the delay, and sometimes, the cancellation of routes.
Due to the varied reasons for school bus delays or cancellations, school bus drivers may not be able to personally call affected families on the changed status of their child’s school bus route.
As one of your best tools, Transportation encourages all families to download the Bus Status app which is the best way to stay updated about your child's route. Transportation posts all school bus route cancellations and delays in excess of 10 minutes on the website as soon as possible. This "Bus Status" app sends a notification directly to your phone anytime there has been an update to share about your child's bus. You can find the Bus Status app in Apple AppStore or under apps under Google Play. You can also access it by clicking on the Bus Icon at the top right hand corner of the GYPSD website and then clicking on the applicable link at the top of the page.
For additional information about safety and inclement weather conditions, please visit the Bus Safety and Parent Information on the website.
Home Room Teachers
To arrange to meet your student's teacher or if you have questions concerning the classroom, please email the teacher directly or call the school at 780-795-3782 and leave a message with our secretary who will have the teacher call you back.
