Principal's Message
Happy Thursday Cougar Families!
I hope you have all had a great week!
End of Quarter 1
Please wrap your arms around your Cougars and congratulate them. The energy of finals week is always a little tense with anticipation. There was increased traffic in the library and Beyond the Bell Tutoring. They worked hard and they deserve our heartfelt praise. No school on Friday, October 13. Quarter 2 begins on Monday, October 16. Let’s help get them started on the right foot!
Don’t Forget to VOTE!
I would like to thank (in alpha order) Nicole Hall, Jerry Lancaster, and Susanna Martin for their interest in contributing to our community through school governance. Operating as an independent charter school is a major responsibility to our community of families and all three are deserving of our consideration. The responsibility of the community is to use their voice through the voting process. The ballots have been mailed and the voting period is open through October 23 at 3:30 PM. Ballots can be returned by mail or in person in our front office.
Our PTO is hosting a community forum tonight, Thursday, October 12 at 6:00 PM in the Library. Please attend and get to know the candidates.
Have an awesome weekend!
Rah! Rah! Cougars!

Parent Volunteer Opportunities
School Site Council Volunteers
A School Site Council (SSC) is a group of school staff, parents, administrators, and interested community members who work together to develop and monitor a school's improvement plan. It is a legally required decision-making body for any school receiving federal funds. The mission of the Steele Canyon SSC is to develop and support a productive educational experience for students and positively affect the formation of major decisions made within the school to close the achievement gap. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 3:45pm. There are currently 2 openings for parents to be elected to this leadership committee. Please click HERE to learn more and submit your name for candidacy. For more information, please email Ms. Hernandez at ephernandez@schscougars.org
School Safety Committee Parent/Guardian Volunteers
Our SCHS school safety committee meets quarterly on Thursday afternoons (next meeting is Thursday, November 2nd at 3pm). We are looking for parent volunteers to attend the meeting and participate in creating our Safety Committee newsletter. If you are interested, please email Ms. Hernandez at ephernandez@schscougars.org.
Nutrition Services
While all meals are provided free of charge to students, there are also food options available for purchase and vending machines on campus. Unlike last year, students are only able to choose one free lunch and one free breakfast. Note: the breakfast meal is served during nutrition break and before school. Students may access breakfast only one time each day. Students who would like to have a "second breakfast" can purchase this second meal for $2.50 at the food service window in the center quad. Food services requires students to have their ID cards before receiving breakfast or lunch - or type in their ID number.
Traffic Safety Reminders
When it comes to SCHS traffic, we all do our best to make sure things flow as smoothly as possible, but there is no getting around the fact that our parking lots can be busy and congested. One entrance/exit and a large community combine to make the daily experience of dropping-off and picking-up to be challenging. Our neighbors at Noah Homes have reached out to us and asked us to remind our driving community to not use their parking lot for parking or student drop-off or pick-up. It is important to follow all traffic safety laws on your approach to Steele Canyon - driving on the shoulder is unsafe and can lead to increased levels of stress for our community. Please drive safely and follow all directions of our campus safety officers. Thank you for your commitment to our traffic safety.
