Jay Debate Chronicles
2024-2025 Season
Dear Team and Parents,
This season has been such a wonderful experience! I hope that each of you have been exhilarated by the success your children have had this season because this season has been one for the record books! Our team has 36 State Qualifiers, 14 National Qualifiers, is ranked #1 in the District, #2 for the State, and #32 in the entire Nation!
With this success comes expenses, which is why each student on the team is obligated to raise $200.00 by the end of the season. And since we qualified so many to Nationals this year, we need to raise more money. This newsletter serves as the FUNDRAISING AND POST-SEASON EDITION
In this newsletter, you will find the following information:
1. A spreadsheet with how much each student has raised THUS FAR. All outstanding balance is due Tuesday, May 12
2. A spreadsheet with any outstanding hotel expenses students have. This money is due by Tuesday, May 12
3. A list of various fundraisers that are coming up
Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. Let's come together to ensure our team can compete at nationals with the entire community behind them by participating in these upcoming fundraisers.
Warm regards,
Coach Hart
Outstanding Fundraising Balance
Listed below is the spreadsheet where we are tracking the amount of money raised thus far. This communicates how much is still owed.
Outstanding Hotel Balance
Listed below includes the amounts owed from Hotel stays at tournaments. Some students did not get the money to us in time before we put the money box away and some students forgot to pay. This communciates that information to you.
FUNDRAISER #1: Performance Showcase
What is this: Each year right before the state competition, the JCHS Speech & Debate Team features some of its state and national qualifying performances. While we would love to feature all students in the program, that would be a very lengthy performance night, so we limit it to no more than 8-9 performances to keep it to two hours or less.
How much does this cost: Admission is $10.00 for parents and $5.00 for students
When is this: Wednesday, April 23 @ 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the JCHS Black Box Theatre
How much goes toward fundraiser obligation: All attendees of a student will receive 100% of the proceeds to their fundraising obligation
FUNDRAISER #2: TRIVIA NIGHT (coupled with Fundraiser #3, the Silent Auction, below)
What is this: Each year, the team hosts an annual Trivia Night fundraiser. There will be ten rounds of ten questions. Prizes are given to the top scoring team. Admission is $20 a person or $160 for a Table.
When is this: Friday, May 9 @ Capital City Productions
How much goes toward fundraising obligation: All attendees of a student will receive 100% of the proceeds to their fundraising obligation.
How do I sign up: All attendees can sign up to attend by scanning the QR code in the attached flyer below
FUNDRAISER #3: SILENT AUCTION (coupled with Fundraiser #2, the Trivia Night, above)
What is this: Each year, we host a Silent Auction to go along with the Trivia Night in an attempt to raise additional money. Any student and/or their family can put together a basket of items to auction off or seek donations from local business to auction off. If you are looking for gift basket ideas, I would encourage you to Google search "Gift Basket ideas".
Here are some great ideas:

- https://givebutter.com/blog/silent-auction-basket-ideas
When is this: Friday, May 9 @ 6:00 pm at Capital City Productions
Who should I get the donations to: Please send a list of items along with a picture to the Parent coordinating the Silent Auction: Amanda Buschmann (arains81@aol.com). She would like them by April 30.
When should the donations be communicated: April 30 -- The sooner, the better. If you could also communicate the value of the basket, that will help us understand what the minimum bid should be.
How much will go toward fundraising obligation: 100% of the money raised for the items a student donates will go toward their fundraising obligation.
FUNDRAISER #4: ADOPT-A-JAY
What is this: This is essentially seeking sponsorships from friends, family, and/or businesses. This is asking for in-kind donations that help raise money for the team. Larger donations have an incentive (see the attached flyer)
How much goes toward fundraiser obligation: 100% of what you raise goes directly toward your balance
Where should I turn in any money raised: Give any money to Coach Hart, along with the form attached below
For Your Information: All donations are tax-deductible, as our Booster Club is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
FUNDRAISER #5: Calendar Raffle
Fundraiser Dates: April 14 - April 25
Raffle Money Due: April 29
Each date on your calendar reflects how many entries the buyer will have in the raffle, as well as the cost for those entries. The buyer can purchase multiple days if they like. If a buyer wants to spend $50.00, they can then pick as many dates as they want as long as the dates total to 50.
Student Incentives:
Students who sell more than half of their calendar dates will be entered into a side drawing with a chance to win a prize of a $50.00 gift card, $25.00 gift card, or $10.00 gift card.
Questions: Amanda Buschmann (arains121481@gmail.com)
SENIOR BREAKFAST
Boosters will be purchasing breakfast at OSCARS for Seniors. This is a BRAND NEW TRADITION, where we get to celebrate each other and have fun as a group.
Meet at Oscars this Friday at 7:00 am!
